When To Visit Cape Town:

We love this hotel for its spectacular location, glamorous aura, and laidback atmosphere! There’s a minimum age requirement of 12 years.

52 De Wet Private Hotel is privately owned and run. Something of a favourite in the YZ office, it boasts breathtaking views that are often captured by filmmakers and fashion photographers! The owners are an English couple who go out of their way to ensure your stay in Cape Town is memorable, and the chef is Michelin trained, no less. Rates include accommodation, breakfast, daily room service, newspaper, in-house movies, and a laundry service. The hotel is open throughout the year.

The hotel can be accessed via 40 minutes’ road transfer from Cape Town’s international airport. It’s situated high up on Lion’s Head, with views over the scenic suburb of Bantry Bay and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean!

Guest accommodation consists of several types of rooms and suites, all beautifully decorated. First, there’s the Classic Room, a stylish option with partial ocean views. It features a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, end-of-bed seating, and well-appointed en-suite facilities comprising flush toilet, washbasin, and shower. Additional amenities include air conditioning, telephone, alarm clock radio, CD player, tea-and-coffee station, mini-bar, safe, Wi-Fi, bathrobes, and hairdryer. Next up, the Superior Suite is a good option for couples and businesspersons. Elegantly split level and more spacious than the Classic Room, it also offers lounge area, desk, television, both shower and bath, and city and ocean views from a corner window. The Secluded Suite is larger still, and boasts private entrance, garden and ocean views from the bed, a fully equipped kitchenette, a braai (barbecue) area, and a private balcony. Ocean vistas are also a feature of the Deluxe Ocean View Room, which has a balcony as well. Finally, the Two Bedroom Apartment and Penthouse are perfect for travellers seeking something very special in the Mother City! With ultra-luxurious living spaces and all the amenities you could desire, these are two of the most exclusive accommodation options in Cape Town.

The communal spaces at 52 De Wet Private Hotel are pretty impressive too. They include a sumptuous lounge area, featuring leather sofas, coffee and occasional tables, and a selection of reading material. This adjoins the dining area, where super-chic tables-and-chairs are positioned in readiness for delicious breakfasts. Lunches, teas, and dinners are served on request, and we recommend enjoying at least one full meal during your time here, courtesy of Russell the Michelin-trained chef! The hotel’s spa is worth visiting too, to enjoy soothing massages, mani-pedis, and beauty treatments. Alternatively, spa staff can come to your own room. Guests can also relax on the hotel’s spacious terrace, a great setting for al fresco sundowners and canapés. And there’s a very welcoming splash pool, perfect for a refreshing dip. You might even spot whales and dolphins frolicking in the sea below!

52 De Wet’s owners are happy to help with travel plans, car hire, restaurant and entertainment reservations, and any number of trips in and around the Mother City. Here are just a few things to see and do:

  • Table Mountain Aerial Gateway

    - A ride up the majestic mountain by cable car, to enjoy spectacular views!
  • Robben Island

    - Located approximately 7 kilometres off the coast, this is where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 of his 27 years behind bars. The island is accessed from Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront.
  • V&A Waterfront

    - No stay in the Mother City is complete without at least one outing to the V&A, to enjoy shops, markets, eateries, and bars!
  • Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

    - Positively overflowing with indigenous flora, these gardens are a fantastic destination for a picnic lunch.
  • District Six Museum

    - A very absorbing exhibition of images, artefacts, and recordings, many of them provided by the district’s ex-residents.
  • Cape Town International Convention Centre

    - The Mother City’s stunning venue for concerts, trade shows, and festivals.
  • Camps Bay Beach

    - Possibly the most glamorous sandy spot in Cape Town, Camps Bay is brilliant for beach activities, fine dining, or simply soaking up some sun.
  • Clifton Beach

    - Not far from Camps Bay, this sheltered series of four coves is a top pick at YZ. And 4th Beach is next to La Med, our go-to for sundowners whenever we’re here.
  • Cape Point

    - An excursion to Africa’s south-western tip, renowned for the quality of its beaches. While you’re here, you could also visit Boulders Beach to see plenty of penguins, and Simonstown or Fishhoek for a little culture too.
