The majority of South Africa holidays will include Cape Town, one of the most exciting cities on the planet. An hour's drive from the ‘Mother City’ lie the ‘Winelands’, home to breathtaking scenery, endless vineyards and some of the best restaurants in Africa.
The country is also an excellent destination for safari holidays; it is one of the best Big Five regions on the continent. The finest safari is to be found in the reserves adjacent to the Kruger National Park – the Sabi Sands and Timbavati in particular. However, the country is arguably even more famous for its malaria-free safari, with the Eastern Cape’s reserves of Shamwari and Kwandwe as well as Madikwe and Tswalu offering the finest malaria-free safari in Africa – a huge bonus for travellers with young children.
South Africa caters very well for families. Scattered across the country are child-friendly hotels and adventure activities such as quad biking, cat sanctuaries and elephant parks. The options to entertain children are endless.
Running up the East Coast from Cape Town lies the 'Garden Route' - a scenic stretch from Mossel Bay to Storms River. With a number of seaside towns and wonderfully wild coastline, it is a beautiful drive that’s very popular with many visitors.
The final destination to mention is KwaZulu Natal, a large province in the north-east of South Africa. Home to the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, the region is a paradise for walking and hiking. Other places worth visiting while on your holiday include the Battlefields of the Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer wars, Rocktail Bay on the coast north of Durban, and Phinda Game Reserve.
