When To Visit Timbavati Private Game Reserve:

Ngala Safari Lodge lies in a beautiful setting under a canopy of tamboti trees and overlooking the seasonal Timbavati River.

Ngala Lodge is a mid- to high-end luxury camp. It is excellent for families with younger children, as well as more mature travellers looking for a less ‘wild’ safari experience. Slightly larger than the majority of camps we like to sell, we believe that Ngala Safari Lodge offers a very good safari experience for the price you pay to stay here.

The lodge is situated in Ngala Reserve in the heart of South Africa’s Timbavati Reserve. This famous Big Five game-viewing area borders the western boundary of Kruger National Park.

The main areas look out over a lawn and onto the bush beyond. There is a large decking area from which guests can look out at any passing game, and a swimming pool to relax by or cool off in.

Ngala Lodge is very much a lodge as opposed to a smaller camp. The 20 rooms are elegantly furnished in semi-detached stone cottages with thatch roofs and spacious verandahs. All are air conditioned, as is standard for most lodges in this area. There is also a family suite, ideal for families with children, with two bedrooms and its own plunge pool.

This is an area well known for its diversity of game, including great leopard and also rare species such as African wild dog. It is a very good Big Five viewing area that in our opinion competes with Sabi Sand. Activities include day and night game drives as well as short nature walks around the outskirts of the camp.
