"I love the Peech because it ticks so many boxes. It’s located in a nice upmarket suburb close to the city centre, and offers great value in what are very comfortable surroundings. It’s also owner run and -managed, which shines through in the warm and friendly service provided. It’s a definite crowd-pleaser! "

OVERVIEW:

The Peech is a brilliant base for exploring Johannesburg, whether you are in the city simply between flights or for a few more days. The Peech is run by owner James Peech, originally a family home, and is situated in the pleasant suburb of Melrose, Johannesburg.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The majority of visitors access the hotel by road transfer from Johannesburg Airport, a journey of about 45 minutes. The Peech stands on North Street, next to the Wanderers international cricket stadium and opposite the beautiful James and Ethel Gray Park. A metal entrance gate opens into the property. The main building is a solid stone structure with a tiled roof, set in an acre of peaceful gardens.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THE PEECH HOTEL:

Inside, there is a welcoming reception area, a laidback library/lounge, two boardrooms for business clients, and a very chic bar and bistro incorporating a wine cellar! The bistro boasts superb views of the hotel gardens and features sumptuous leather couches. This is the setting for delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, as well as wine evenings! One of the boardrooms – known as The Green Room – doubles as a private dining room and has a lovely location close to the kitchen garden. The other – The Boardroom – is conveniently positioned just off the lobby and is large enough to accommodate a maximum of 16 delegates. The hotel also has a gym, and a swimming pool within its gardens. Whether you come here for business or pleasure, it’s a relaxing place to be!

Guest accommodation at The Peech consists of 16 rooms and suites in three categories – House Room, Garden Room, and Garden Suite. All options are air conditioned and decorated in a contemporary style. They include a king-size bed or twin beds, flatscreen television, complimentary Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine, a laptop safe, and en-suite facilities comprising flush toilet, washbasin, Raindance shower, and separate bathtub – and free Molton Brown toiletries too! Each House Room is in the main building and occupies 40 square metres of floor space. The Garden Room option has all the features of the House Room, in addition to a balcony or patio facing into the grounds. All Garden Rooms are found in a separate building, which also houses the Garden Suites. Covering 60 square metres, these are seriously spacious! They resemble the Garden Room, with the added benefit of a separate toilet and twin washbasins. Each has an additional seating area too, so this option is ideal if you are looking for a little more space, especially if you are visiting as a family with young children.

ACTIVITIES AT THE PEECH HOTEL:

The Peech is perfectly placed for guests to check out all the major attractions of Johannesburg.

  • Just 10 minutes away, there are the shops of Melrose Arch and Rosebank, as well as Sandton’s business centre. The suburbs situated around the central hub of the city entice visitors with their street culture and cuisine!
  • At the heart of Jo-burg, keen historians enjoy a trip to the Soweto Township and Apartheid Museum, considered the world’s best museum for the presentation of twentieth-century Africa.
  • The Mandela Museum is also worth a visit, as is the city’s main art gallery.
  • For some family fun, you could pop to Gold Reef City, a theme park providing insights into mining life in the 1880s and including roller coasters and water rides! And of course J-burg city centre has a very fine selection of cafés, restaurants, and bars.
