A safari to East Africa, for example, may well include a big cat safari in Tanzania’s Serengeti and a brief gorilla safari in Rwanda, while other trips can comprise colossal ‘pan-Africa safaris’, showcasing the breathtaking highlights of ‘Safari Africa’.

On this page, and on the pages linked to it, our co-founder Julian talks through the differences between East Africa’s and Southern Africa’s safaris. He shares his views on the finest trips to each region, as well as providing an introduction to Yellow Zebra’s best pan-Africa safaris.

Naturally, all this makes for fascinating reading. However, we cannot stress enough that the best way to start planning any safari is to have a chat with one of our specialists over the phone. They will talk you through all your options and follow up with an e-mail that will guide you through a trip that’s tailor-made for you. Please be wary of carrying out a lot of research on the web, as there is so much misinformed ‘sale-focused’ knowledge out there!

The best piece of advice we can give you is simply to go with the area you’ve always had in your mind. If you’re most passionate about seeing the open plains of the Serengeti, for example, then go to East Africa. Likewise, if Botswana’s Okavango Delta is your dream destination, then not focusing on Southern Africa will likely be something you’ll regret. Going with your original thought is often the right decision; it’s really as simple as that.

This belief is backed up by the answer to a question we’re asked often – ‘Where can I have the best safari?’ The truth is, superb safari camps are available everywhere we design trips, so there is no best destination for safari! We’re very confident that we can tailor-make amazing safaris to all areas of Safari Africa. That’s our rule about safari as a whole – in the right property, in any country, safari can be truly outstanding.

At YZ, we like to think our specialists are rather good at choosing those properties and tailoring the trip perfectly for you. I’d encourage you to put us to the test…!
