Garonga Safari Camp

  • Romantic tented lodge in Makalali Conservancy
  • Owner run and managed with incredible service
  • Great value, intimate camp
  • Unique bush-bath experience
When To Visit Kruger National Park:
"Located in a private reserve some distance from the heart of the Kruger’s best game-viewing areas, Garonga has long been a property offering first-class accommodation but a somewhat manufactured game-viewing experience. Not a property we book often."

OVERVIEW:

Yellow Zebra love the romantic feel of Garonga, but we feel it is let down by the size of the reserve. Also, the fact that it is completely fenced off can detract from the feeling of being in the wilderness.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The lodge is situated in the Makalali Conservancy, which is west of Kruger National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT GARONGA SAFARI CAMP:

The main lodge has six luxury tented rooms with wooden decks overlooking a dry river bed. The tented rooms are spacious and have indoor and outdoor showers. Little Garonga consists of three suites. The Chiltern and Buckingham suites are both air conditioned and contain spacious rooms with a lounge area. Each has a private covered deck area with a hammock to relax and enjoy the views of the bush.

The Hambledon Suite is a two-bedroom unit, great for a family of two adults and two children. There is an indoor and outdoor lounge area and a large bathroom that is shared by the two rooms with an indoor and outdoor shower. The suite also has its own swimming pool and deck area, a perfect place to relax between safaris.

The food at Garonga is always top class, with a huge variety of wines available.

ACTIVITIES AT GARONGA SAFARI CAMP:

The ethos of Garonga is to offer a safari for the soul, and its activities include game drives, walks, outdoor bush baths and sleep-outs.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
