Montusi Mountain Lodge

OVERVIEW:

Set halfway between Johannesburg and Durban, Montusi Mountain Lodge is the only upmarket destination in the area and offers an uninterrupted front row seat to the dramatic views of the famous Amphitheatre escarpment.

ACCESS & LOCATION: 

The lodge is located in the KwaZulu-Natal Northern Drakensberg and is a two-hour drive from the Lesotho border. 

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MONTUSI MOUNTAIN LODGE: 

The accommodation consists of 14 freestanding suites. All are decorated in earthy tones and offer incredible views of Drakensberg Amphitheatre. There are ten garden suites, which have a spacious bedroom with a lounge and en-suite bathroom. The bathroom has a bath and walk-in shower, and the honeymoon suite has a corner bath.

Additionally, there are four family suites, to accommodate four adults or two adults travelling with two children. The rooms are separated by a lounge area, which has a fireplace and leads onto a private patio. The meals at Montusi tend to be local cuisine, with innovative menus. Whenever the weather permits, meals are taken outside on the Phumleni with its stunning views of the amphitheatre. In winter the meals are usually enjoyed in the intimate restaurant, which has a cosy log fire and under-floor heating.

The thatched main area houses the lounge, bar and restaurant, leading onto a terrace that overlooks a natural pool. There is also a massage treatment room and a large swimming pool.

ACTIVITIES AT MONTUSI MOUNTAIN LODGE:

• From the lodge there are many different hiking trails, which are perfectly safe to explore on your own.
• Some of the trails lead to a Bushman Cave with paintings, waterfalls and rock pools.
• Royal Natal National Park is only 15 km away.
• The estate contains two dams, stocked with trout that can be fished on a catch-and-release basis.
