When To Visit The Serengeti:

Banagi is brilliant for travellers seeking a stylish base from which to observe the Great Migration as it passes through Grumeti! Children of all ages are welcome.

Banagi Green Camp is owned and operated by Wayo Africa. This company specialises in authentic safaris within some of the remotest regions in Tanzania. As a Wayo green camp, the property is described as smart and very comfortable. It’s fairly new in the Serengeti area, but reviews have been positive to date! The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Children aged 16 years and younger incur 50 per cent off the adult rate. Banagi Green is open from June to November every year.

The camp is accessed via 35 minutes’ road transfer from the Seronera airstrip. It’s situated under acacia trees on the banks of the small Banagi stream, which flows into the Grumeti river.

There are eight guest tents, all bell style. Each is round and measures approximately 4 by 4 metres at the widest point. The interiors are simple yet stylish, featuring a nicely made double bed, bedside tables and lighting, a couple of floor cushions, and a storage chest. Washing facilities are set up next to every tent, and they comprise low-flush composting toilet, a washbasin with hot and cold running water, and a classic bucket shower. Complimentary soap, shampoo, and conditioner are supplied.

Banagi Green’s lounge and dining areas occupy a mess tent. In the lounge space, there’s comfy seating and coffee tables, while the dining room has one large table surrounded by upright chairs. Food and drink is prepared in the camp’s own kitchen, and served by waiting staff as plated or as a more informal buffet. Guests can request private dining, and waiters will set you up in a quiet location nearby. The Banagi stream attracts a lot of wildlife, so you’re guaranteed great views while you tuck in to delicious meals! There’s also a campfire, the perfect place for socialising with your fellow guests and sharing stories of your safari day.

The main thing to do here is to observe the huge herds of the Great Migration as they thunder through the park!

  • June witnesses hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles enter the Grumeti region, crossing the Grumeti river from the Serengeti’s well-trodden Western Corridor. Come July, some animals opt to move farther north, even eventually entering Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve, but there’s always a lot to see from Banagi Green.
  • Game drives take place in the company of highly knowledgeable and experienced guides, guaranteeing sightings of a wealth of wildlife overall.
  • Grumeti is home to all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. Smaller carnivores include cheetah, hyenas, jackals, wild dog, serval, and caracal, while the herbivore count features giraffe, eland, kudus, bushbuck, and waterbuck too.
  • Birdlife abounds, from raptors to waterbirds and everything in between.
  • And camp staff members are happy to arrange hot air balloon rides for you! Typically a ride begins just before dawn, and you’ll enjoy at least an hour of bird’s-eye wildlife viewing before descending to a lavish champagne breakfast.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
