"The Nimali collection of camps is a fairly new safari company but one that offers high standards of accommodation in a crowded market. This is a very decent little camp albeit one that remains fairly untested by YZ clients."

OVERVIEW:

Kirurumu Serengeti North Camp is owned and operated by Kirurumu Under Canvas, a company that combines adventure and luxury accommodation to provide really thrilling experiences in not only the Serengeti but also the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the national parks of Lake Manyara and Tarangire. The price of your stay at Serengeti North Camp includes your safari tent, all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and a laundry service.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Open from June to October, the camp is situated in the Kogatende area and is accessed via road transfer from Kogatende Airstrip. It has a lovely location amidst grassland, surrounded by acacia trees.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT KIRURUMU SERENGETI NORTH CAMP:

Guest accommodation consists of seven safari tents. All are super-spacious and configured as either a double or twin room. The roof of each tent extends over the entrance to provide a lovely shady veranda – set with a couple of campaign chairs and a small table, this is the perfect place to relax, have a drink, and enjoy your view! Inside, the beds are very comfy, with a 6-inch mattress apiece. Other features include solar lighting, a luggage rack, and feet-friendly mats on the canvas floor. The en-suite facilities, found at the back of every tent, comprise flush toilet, washbasin, and shower. The washbasin is positioned within a vanity unit, with mirror over, and there’s lots of hanging space too.

Kirurumu’s communal lounge and dining areas occupy a large mess tent, not far from the guest accommodation. This too has a pleasant veranda and a general feeling of airiness. The lounge space contains well-cushioned seating around a coffee table, with a selection of reading material displayed in open shelving to one side. In the dining area, there are a couple of tables flanked by campaign chairs. At the back, there’s the camp’s bar and a record player. A few wildlife pictures adorn the walls, adding to the authentic safari vibe! And a short distance from the mess tent, there’s a fire-pit – great for getting to know your fellow travellers and swapping stories.

ACTIVITIES AT KIRURUMU SERENGETI NORTH CAMP:

The main thing to do here is to head out on excellent game drives.

  • Led by knowledgeable and experienced guides, the game drives are absolutely ideal for seeing a real wealth of wildlife!
  • During the months from June to October, the Kogatende region is home to the Great Migration – hundreds of thousands of wildebeest in addition to numerous zebra and gazelles enter the area in their search for food. Kogatende borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, and it’s possible to watch the famous river crossings of the huge herds – look out for crocs lying in wait!
  • All Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – are also in residence here. Smaller predators and herbivores abound too, including cheetah, hyenas, jackals, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and all sorts of antelopes.
  • Keen birders can have fun spotting hundreds of species of feathery friend, from raptors to songbirds to waterbirds!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
