Overall, this will be a beautiful tented lodge where guests will enjoy seeing the Serengeti in comfort. Perfect for guests looking for luxury in a quieter area of the Serengeti. This area is well known for great sightings of the black and white colobus monkeys.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge is situated within the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, on the banks of the Grumeti river. It’ll be accessed via flight from Arusha to Grumeti Airstrip, followed by a short road transfer to the lodge (5–10 minutes).
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT GRUMETI SERENGETI RIVER LODGE:
There will be nine standard suites and one 2-bedroom suite that will be perfect for families with children. So far, no images have been made available, but we’re told that the accommodation will be very spacious, and the style will be nostalgic elegance. Each standard suite will feature an enormous bed and an exquisitely appointed washroom with bathtub and indoor/outdoor showers. From the outside shower, guests will have amazing views over the Serengeti! Every unit will have a private plunge pool too. And the family suite will benefit from a small additional bedroom, ideal for young children.
The communal spaces at Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge will include an open-air lounge and dining area, with decks for those gorgeous river views. Kitenge fabrics will contribute to the overall air of authenticity, striking against the lodge’s stone walls. The palette will be inspired by the colours of Lake Victoria’s fishing communities and the grey tones of the local hippos. Another enticing aspect of the lodge is the interactive kitchen, where guests will be invited to work with the chefs, planning their menus for the day ahead. There will be a convivial central bar too. As this is an &Beyond property, you can expect outstanding quality food and drink. Other communal facilities will include a fitness centre, a signature shop, and a rim-flow swimming pool!
ACTIVITIES AT GRUMETI SERENGETI RIVER LODGE:
The lodge’s position within the Serengeti’s famous Western Corridor will make for some amazing wildlife sightings! Here’s a list of the activities that’ll be available:
Twice-daily game drives- Vehicle safaris will be available during early mornings and late afternoons, to avoid the midday heat. Among the wildlife highlights in this part of the park are huge herds of plain game, large lion prides, substantial hyena clans, and the black-and-white colobus monkeys that are found nowhere else in the Serengeti. And as the lodge has a remote location, the chances of encountering another vehicle are pretty slim.
Great Migration sightings- The Western Corridor forms a key part of the Great Migration route. During the period from April to mid-June, the legendary wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles are in this zone for the rutting season. Naturally, all the herbivore herds attract a wealth of predators, not least lion, leopard, and cheetah. If you’re here during June and mid-July, you’re likely to see crossings of the Grumeti river – it’s well worth bringing your camera!
Hot air ballooning- You’ll need your camera for this activity too, together with binocs to check out all the action on the ground. Balloon safaris start just before first light and provide spectacular vistas over vast swaths of the Serengeti. As if all that weren’t enough, you’ll descend to a champagne breakfast, before being returned to the lodge. Highly recommended!
If you’d like to be one of the first guests of &Beyond’s Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge when the property opens in June next year, do contact our office to speak with a member of the YZ team.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
