"Faru Faru is nothing short of exceptional. A top-notch safari camp; one of the very best in Africa. Fantastic for the Great Migration from May to July, but superb all year round as an add-on to another Serengeti camp."

OVERVIEW:

Minimalist and contemporary with a pale-on-pale colour palette, Singita Faru Faru is an elegant lodge with a fantastic location in the most luxurious reserve in Tanzania. It overlooks a popular watering hole, and we would go so far as to say that this lodge is one of the finest products in Africa, although unsurprisingly it comes with a high price tag. No expense is spared here in the quest to deliver the perfect safari experience. Service and hospitality are of the highest order, and we are willing to put our necks on the line and argue that the value you get while staying in this reserve ranks among the best across Safari Africa.

It is also worth mentioning that, due to the range of activities on offer, and the sheer quality of accommodation, Faru Faru is a very good destination outside the peak Great Migration months. Fairly populous resident game and exceptional standards of hospitality make this camp a great option throughout the year. But if you are visiting Faru Faru outside its peak migration months, we tend to recommend combining it with a more migration-focused camp.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Singita’s Faru Faru Lodge is just under a 2-hour flight from Arusha. Occasionally guests drive into camp, but, due to the prices charged to stay here, most clients are on flying safaris, approaching from neighbouring Ngorongoro (60 minutes) and Lake Manyara (90 minutes).

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SINGITA FARU FARU LODGE:

Guest accommodation consists of seven 1-bedroom suites, one family suite (2 adults and 2 children), and one 2-bedroom suite (4 adults) with a private pool. The suites are a luxurious mix of contemporary décor and organic styles, using subtle, earthy palettes of winter grasses and pink river clay. Taking a minimalist approach, the suites have large panoramic windows along the length of one side of the bedroom. There is a small seating area placed in front of the windows, while the large four-poster bed is set back yet still takes advantage of the scenic views. The rooms have discreet partitions that screen the free-standing bathtub and twin washbasins, and there is a stone-packed outdoor shower. All suites have air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a telescope.

In common with the guest suites, the communal building at Singita Faru Faru is contemporary and minimalist, and balances exposed stone floors and walls with beautiful wooden interiors and structures, all sheltered by a canvas roof. The main area contains the dining space, bar, and lounge, all overlooking the waterhole. Beyond the building are the two swimming pools, as well as a vast outdoor deck and firepit, ideal for relaxed afternoons and sundowners. The lodge also has a wellness and fitness centre, and a boutique and gallery.
We do not often praise the food and hospitality of expensive lodges, as high quality should come as standard. However, Faru Faru, and the entire Singita Reserve for that matter, deserves its own special mention. Paying some of the highest prices in the country rewards you with a service level that will compete with anywhere in Africa – this is unquestionably the highest standard of hospitality and service in Tanzania.

ACTIVITIES AT SINGITA FARU FARU LODGE:

Singita Faru Faru has many activities on offer:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - Morning and afternoon game drives take place in open-sided vehicles, usually taking a maximum of six passengers.
  • Walking safaris and night game drives

    - This private reserve offers night safaris as well as walking and village trips, activities that are not permitted within the Serengeti park boundary.
  • Great Wildebeest Migration

    - For the best experiences of this amazing event, aim for May to late July, when the huge herds pass through. We suggest combining Faru Faru with a more migration-focused camp out of the Great Migration months, to get the most from your stay.
  • Wildlife spotting

    - During your stay at Singita, you are likely to spot a great variety of wildlife, including cheetah, bearded wildebeest, bat-eared fox, Maasai giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and the rare Colobus monkey.
  • Hot air ballooning

    - Balloon safaris, for an extra fee, can be arranged while staying in camp, but they must be booked in advance to guarantee availability.
  • Cultural and community visits

    - The lodge also has a wealth of cultural activities on offer due to the immense amount of work that the reserve does with the local community.
  • Activities on offer at the lodge

    - Other things to do include tennis, croquet, massage, and spa facilities, and there’s also a gym, a shop, cycling, and archery.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
