When To Visit Tarangire National Park:
“After a full refurbishment, this camp has become one of the best that Nasikia can offer. The tents are spacious and tastefully decorated, with large verandas on raised and polished wooden decking. The main area sits in the shade of baobab trees, and is fresh, open air, and with a swimming pool! From basic tented camp to tented lodge, but still with character and great value for money.”

OVERVIEW:

This tented lodge provides a superb base from which to explore Tarangire National Park. The accommodation is spacious and guests enjoy a great range of activities.

Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge is owned and run by Nasikia Camps. Something of a step up from the other camps in the Nasikia portfolio, it offers very spacious tents including two family units. Accommodation is usually booked on a full-board basis, and the lodge is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The lodge is accessed via 45 minutes’ road transfer from Kuro Airstrip, or 2 hours 30 minutes’ drive from Arusha. It’s situated in the central region of Tarangire National Park, surrounded by acacia and baobab trees.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT TARANGIRE NDOVU TENTED LODGE:

Guest accommodation consists of 12 tented suites, including two double units for families. All are spaced well apart along the plains and raised about a metre off the ground, so they feel both private and secure. Steps lead up onto a private deck, where you’ll find a love seat and a side table – this is a great spot for relaxing and enjoying your views! Entering a standard tent, which measures 20 metres long by 8 metres wide, you’ll find a double bed, twin beds, or triple beds set up on polished wooden floors – the tent is sufficiently spacious to accommodate three travellers very easily. Other furnishings include bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, comfy seating, elegant lighting, and some wonderful wildlife artwork. There’s a telephone too, as well as a phonebook and a password for in-room Wi-Fi. The en-suite washroom contains a flush toilet, twin washbasins, separate shower with hot/cold running water, and additional storage space.

The two family units are each made up of two tents – one for parents and one for children. A wooden platform connects the two verandas, and there are wooden rails around the edge to prevent the kids from falling. There are rails on every standard tent’s veranda too, and sliding double doors with mosquito netting provide a safe and stylish entrance/exit. Access for disabled travellers is available on request.

The communal spaces at Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge are equally well appointed. Overall, they’re luxurious without feeling pretentious. Joined to the guest tents via a pathway that’s lit by lanterns at night, they occupy classic timber-and-thatch structures. The lounge features comfortable seating around coffee tables, and it’s adjacent to the lodge’s bar, which stocks a good range of alcoholic and soft drinks. In the dining area, there’s a big table where everyone eats together, sharing stories of their safari day. Guests socialise around the fire-pit too, which is the perfect place for sundowners. Anyone in need of a little pampering can pop to the on-site spa for a variety of relaxing and revitalising treatments, while the gift shop is fantastic for some souvenir shopping. Finally, the swimming pool is situated on its own deck and flanked by inviting sunloungers. The pool deck is a popular venue for al fresco dining, whether you’re in need of a quick snack or a three-course supper.

ACTIVITIES AT TARANGIRE NDOVU TENTED LODGE:

Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge offers a thrilling mix of activities, as follows:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    – Tarangire might be the least-known safari area on Tanzania’s northern circuit, but it really is a gem of a park, with plenty of wildlife to view on game drives. The sprawling plains, open woodland, riverine forest, and water sources support four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – in addition to smaller predators and herbivores such as cheetah, hyena, jackal, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, antelopes, and hippo. And there are hundreds of bird species. Vehicle safaris take place during the morning and the evening, with special birdwatching drives offered to keen birders.
  • Bush picnics and meals

    – Fancy starting your day with a bush breakfast? Alternatively, you could stay in the park for a full day and tuck in to a hearty picnic come lunchtime, or even enjoy your last meal of the day in the wilderness. Ndovu’s staff are happy to arrange all these options for you.
  • Walking safaris

    – Accompanied by the lodge’s armed walking guide, walks are usually available at dawn and at dusk, and they’re ideal for safarists interested in a close look at the smaller lives of Tarangire – for example, the plants, insects, and birdlife.
  • Community and cultural visits

    – Guests are invited to visit a village not far from the lodge, to learn all about the lives of the local people.
  • Hot air balloon safaris

    – Please speak with us about booking a balloon safari, which involves ascending just before the sun rises and marvelling at amazing vistas over Tarangire! After a couple of hours in the air, you’ll descend to a champagne breakfast in the bush.
  • Family safaris

    – Ndovu guarantees a private safari vehicle for families of four persons during low season. However, during high season families including children aged under 12 years must book a private vehicle at cost. The lodge’s guides are well able to keep kids entertained, with their exciting blend of facts, games, and stories!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
