Swala is the most luxurious lodge inside the National Park boundary and enjoys a remote location away from the crowds.

Run by Sanctuary Lodges, Swala is sister camp to Kusini in the Serengeti. The camp is very high specification, with a refreshingly affordable price for this level of luxury.

Sanctuary Swala Camp is located in the south-west of Tarangire National Park.

Swala has 12 spacious rooms, which run off to the side of the main lodge. The entire camp looks over an artificial watering hole that draws in an impressive diversity of animals, including very good elephant, for which the park is so famous.

Although Swala is most commonly viewed as a tented camp, the rooms are tent-and-stone structures raised up onto wooden decking, giving the camp much more of a lodge feel. Huge beds and comfy sofas are complemented by outside decking areas, and there are in- and outdoor showers.

The main lounge areas and dining room are designed in the same style as the rooms, with numerous sofas and relaxing areas to enjoy the game that always seem to be wandering through the camp. Food and service are good, as one would expect from a camp of this quality.

Activities at Swala are based around standard daytime game drives, but walking safaris and night drives are also possible here.

"Great character and with elephants seemingly hanging around the camp all day Swala is my favourite of all the properties inside the park."
