Selous Retreat is situated in a remote part of the Selous Game Reserve where there used to be hunting, so the animals tend to be rather skittish.

OVERVIEW:
Though Selous Retreat  is a high quality lodge located in an extremely photographic area, when looking for lodges in this price bracket, we prefer to send clients to Siwandu Camp or Impala Camp.

ACCESS & LOCATION:
Selous Retreat is located in a remote area in the western part of Selous Game Reserve.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
The main lodge sits in a clay hill fort overlooking the Ruaha River and comprises a lounge, restaurant, spa and communal swimming pool.

Accommodation comes in three categories. The six standard Hillside Suites are a short distance away from the lodge and consist of a bedroom, lounge, indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, and an outdoor bath tub.

Four more luxurious River Suites sit on the riverbank below, each with their own plunge pool and look out deck, while two Hippo Suites nestle at the secluded Hippo Point, and come complete with a dining area, infinity swimming pool and private butler service.

ACTIVITIES:
Although Selous Retreat sits in a beautiful setting and is extremely comfortable, the game is poor compared to the Lake Manze/Siwandu area, and boating safaris can be restricted in dry years on the Ruaha.

"Unfortunately the game viewing area here is not nearly as good as other areas of the park. Couple this with the fact that boating safaris are hugely limited and I just don't see the reason to travel to this area! Sorry!"
