Home to some of Africa's most famous parks, Tanzania is a serious safari heavyweight.

Safaris in Tanzania

Tanzania is the envy of most safari countries - being home to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. All of Tanzania’s safari parks have their own special appeal, which makes it a real contender for our favorite destination.

The general rule is to choose whether you would like your Tanzania safari vacation in the North or South. The northern circuit is the famous stomping ground of the Wildebeest Great Migration and attracts the highest concentration of predators in Africa. Combine a trip to the Serengeti with a few nights on top of the Ngorongoro Crater or along the shores of Lake Manyara to witness Tanzania's absolutely phenomenal big game regions. Alternatively, you could head to the quieter southern circuit to experience Tanzania’s charming ‘off the beaten track’ reserves, such as Ruaha National Park and the Selous Game Reserve.

As well as offering the iconic African safari, Tanzania also has some superb specialist experiences, from mobile camping to photographic courses. Safari aficionados head off to western Tanzania for the chimps of Mahale and the wild appeal of Katavi – parks that receive very few visitors indeed.

Just off Tanzania’s coast lies Zanzibar with its fascinating history and exceptional beaches. Other island options include Pemba to the north and Mafia to the south – vacation destinations primarily for keen divers - while the sprawling city of Dar Es Salaam provides a fascinating distraction thanks to its many museums and vibrant art galleries.
