The island of Mauritius was named after Prince Maurice van Nassau by the first Dutch colonists in 1638. It is popular due not only to its wonderful white-sand beaches bordering clear cyan seas but also to its wealth of inland attractions – bustling capital city Port Louis, vibrant villages along the coast, majestic Le Morne mountain, hectares of tropical forest… you will not run out of things to do!

Another attraction is, of course, the island’s climate – Mauritius is mild throughout the year. It has two seasons – a humid summer from November to April and a cooler and drier winter from June to September. May and October are known as the transition months. During the summer the average temperature is 76°F and during the winter it is 69°F. The wettest months are February and March, while October is driest overall.

We recommend vacation makers avoid the west of the island from January to March, as this is the time that the area receives extremely high winds and even cyclones! From May to August is the best period to be here.

The warmth of the weather is matched by the warm welcome Mauritius bestows upon guests throughout its multitude of hotels and resorts. Following its tumultuous history of Dutch, French and British occupation, then port strikes and student revolts during the years of independence from 1968 to 1992, today Mauritius the Republic enjoys friendly relations with countries across the globe and a culture rich in influences yet distinctive too. Mauritius island’s cuisine is a fusion of Creole, Chinese, European and Indian, while its Sega music originates from the first slaves on the island and features in the live entertainment of many resorts and hotels.

We offer accommodation all over Mauritius – around the island’s scenic shoreline, along its private peninsulas and aloft its hilly heights. Whether you prefer the buzz of a luxurious resort, the charm of a sumptuous hotel or the intimacy of a secluded lodge, we guarantee you will find your pocket of paradise with a luxury vacation to Mauritius somewhere in our pages!

One thing our options have in common is an amazing assortment of activities – watersports, landsports, spa and gym. All resorts and hotels are able to offer or organize ocean pursuits in abundance – diving, scuba diving, windsurfing, kitesurfing, waterskiing, snorkeling, kayaking and glass-bottom boat rides, for example. On land, guests enjoy sports such as tennis, table tennis, fitness training, and a variety of classes at the spa. Many resorts have their own golf course or access to a course elsewhere. Excursions are possible throughout the island and with very few exceptions an onsite kids’ club keeps children entertained.

Guests benefit also from the Mauritian diversity in cuisine. The majority of hotels and resorts have at least three restaurants, offering a range of local and international fare. There really is something to tantalize every set of taste buds – Creole, Asian, American, European. But don’t just take our word for it – get out there and try it for yourself!
