OVERVIEW:

Owned and operated by Lemala Authentic Camps and Lodges, Hamerkop House offers a relaxing stopover or longer stay both before and after a safari to Tanzania’s national parks. The house can be taken on private exclusive use basis or shared, and can be booked on a B&B, half-board, full-board, or all-inclusive basis; please contact a member of the YZ team to discuss your requirements! The private house is available all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The house can be accessed via 45 minutes’ road transfer from both Arusha and Kilimanjaro Airport. Though there is also a private airstrip just 10 minutes away, which is serviced by scheduled flights to nearby parks such as Manyara, Tarangire, and the Serengeti. It is situated on a private wildlife and golf estate, only 15 minutes from Arusha National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT HAMERKOP HOUSE BY LEMALA:

Situated amidst beautiful gardens, this private house is generously proportioned. The interiors are individually decorated and feature a blend of colonial-style furniture and local African design. Hamerkop House has three spacious bedrooms, all en suite. The en suite facilities comprise of both indoor and outdoor bathrooms. Each room also has a private deck overlooking the lawns and gardens, and a lounge/study. 

Communal areas within the house include an open-plan reception, living, and dining room. This is a lovely space, typically featuring comfortable chairs and sofas around a coffee table, bookshelves, board games, and a table set for delicious meals. The house has private chefs, who are able to rustle up breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas, dinner, and even sundowner cocktails too! Guests can decide where to eat – at the dining table, on the veranda, or around the villa’s swimming pool. Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the accommodation.

An exciting range of activities is available here, as follows:

  • Game drives

    - As Hamerkop House by Lemala is located just 15 minutes by road from Arusha National Park, guests can enjoy great game drives! Wildlife might not rival the more famous parks in northern Tanzania, but if you are lucky you still have a good chance of seeing buffalo, giraffe, zebra, black-and-white colobus monkey, and some brilliant birdlife. On very rare occasions lion can be seen too.
  • Horse riding

    - This activity is possible on the property’s private wildlife estate, and it’s fantastic for anyone wishing to get in among the herds, really close to the plains game.
  • Golf

    - The house has access to Tanzania's only championship golf course! This offers 18 holes, within a very scenic setting.
  • Hiking

    - Highly recommend for guests who are feeling energetic, hikes can be arranged on the slopes Mount Kilimanjaro. The views from the mountain are well worth the climb.
  • Canoeing

    - Guests can also enjoy amazing views while canoeing on Lake Duluti. This crater lake is known as a paradise for birds and reptiles!
  • Polo Club

    - This is an excellent venue for relaxation, especially between more adventurous activities.
  • Coffee plantation tours

    - The perfect cultural complement to time on safari, tours involve walks and tastings.
