Situated in the heart of the Mwagusi area of Ruaha National Park, Nomad Tanzania’s Kigelia Camp has long been a favourite of ours, especially in combination with Sand Rivers, Selous to provide some excellent multiple-night-stay specials. Kigelia Ruaha's aim is to blend into its environment with the emphasis on the experience but it is still more than comfortable, and for this reason we love this camp!
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Kigelia camp is located in one of the best areas for wildlife in Ruaha National Park, with large herds of elephant, numerous sightings of the big cats, and prolific birdlife.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
Set on the banks of the Ifuguru sand river, the six tents sit under sausage trees, after which the camp is named. They have simple plain wood furniture, decks to sit out on, and en suite bathrooms with a flushing toilet and outside bucket shower. The camp has a combined lounge and dining area with meals often enjoyed under the stars or around the camp fire.
Activities include game drives, bush walks and picnics. Besides the high-octane game drives that Ruaha is famous for, there is a stronge emphasis on walking safaris. Night drives are now also a possibility here, giving intrepid guests an insight into the very different world of the nocturnal creatures such as porcupine, genet and civet, and of course the much-coveted and rare pangolin.
