“The Manor is a superb lodge for clients wanting high levels of luxury without the high prices of the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. A great option for accessing both Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater.”

OVERVIEW:

Designed in the same style as the Cape Dutch estates within South Africa’s Winelands, The Manor has gained a great reputation for its sheer individuality! The interiors stick closely to the style of a traditional manor house and are very luxurious – think wooden beams, large leather or paisley sofas, and heavy wooden furniture.

The Manor at Ngorongoro is owned and run by the Elewana Collection. This company operates boutique camps, lodges, and hotels across Kenya and Tanzania, including the Maasai Mara, the Serengeti, and Zanzibar. The word Elewana means ‘harmony’ in the Swahili language, and it was chosen to reflect the company’s relationship with the wildlife and communities local to all its properties. The accommodation at The Manor is booked on a full-board or game-package basis, and the hotel is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The hotel can be accessed via 40 minutes’ road transfer from Lake Manyara Airport. It’s situated within the Shangri-La estate, next to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THE MANOR AT NGORONGORO:

Guest accommodation consists of 18 Manor Cottage Suites and one Stable Cottage; the latter is offered for family use. All suite buildings are dotted around the hotel’s well-kept grounds. Each unit has a private entrance leading onto a lovely sun terrace, which has a couple of easy chairs, a table, sun loungers, and beautiful views! Entering the cottage, you’ll find a very large sleeping and living space, partially divided by a cozy fireplace. The bedroom contains a king-size bed or twin beds, bedside chests and lighting, and an additional single bed if required. In the lounge, there’s a comfortable sofa, an armchair, a coffee table, and other storage units. Amenities and services include an internal telephone system, a tea-and-coffee station, complimentary bottles of mineral water, a complimentary jar of homemade cookies, an electronic safe, a stationery set, bathrobes and slippers, a hairdryer, nightly turndown, and room service on request. The en-suite facilities comprise a flush toilet, twin washbasins, a rainfall shower, and a freestanding bathtub with shower attachment. Stable Cottage is located behind the riding stables. It has two floors. The ground floor contains a master bedroom and a twin bedroom, both with en-suite bathroom, as well as a family lounge. Upstairs, there’s a twin bedroom for children, another bathroom, and a playroom complete with satellite television! Stable Cottage also has a private sun terrace and a private courtyard.

The communal facilities at The Manor are set out in and around the lodge’s main Cape Dutch-style farmhouse. Inside, there are numerous sumptuous lounge areas, generally featuring well-cushioned sofas and armchairs, coffee and occasional tables, some interesting wall artwork, and Persian rugs on the house’s shiny wooden floors. Among a few treasures, you might spot as you settle in, are a gramophone and a grand piano! The main dining room contains plush gold-fabric chairs around immaculately laid tables, elegant lighting, and a welcoming fireplace. The building is also home to a billiards room and a TV/cinema room; guests can bring their own DVDs to watch here. Both a terrace and a patio provide a delightful spot for relaxing and dining al fresco. Finally, within a walled garden, there’s the lodge’s very inviting swimming pool, with sun loungers alongside!

Activities at The Manor at Ngorongoro:

The Manor is a superb base from which to explore the Rift Valley region, offering both on-site activities and things to do farther afield:

  • Expertly guided game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater

    - One of the world’s most spectacular features, the crater was formed when an enormous volcano collapsed in on itself. This collapse resulted in a caldera over 600 meters deep and with a floor covering 260 square kilometers. Today the crater is home to all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – in addition to impressive populations of smaller predators and herbivores, and ample birdlife. Drives will be with your private vehicle and guide, usually starting out after an early-morning breakfast. You’ll enjoy a full day in the crater, with a hearty picnic lunch stop!
  • Expertly guided game drives in Lake Manyara National Park

    - Another highlight to any stay in North Tanzania, visits to Lake Manyara offer exciting opportunities to view a wide range of wildlife in one of Africa’s most scenic safari areas. Your private guide will introduce you to some of the park’s finest attractions, such as its vast flocks of flamingo and svelte tree-climbing lions!
  • Horse riding with picnic

    - The Manor has stables on-site, and guests can enjoy riding around the hotel grounds and through the highlands of Ngorongoro. All rides are accompanied by a knowledgeable and experienced guide, who’ll tell you all about the area and answer any questions. And a picnic lunch will be prepared for you by the hotel’s own executive chef!
  • Sundowner cocktails at The Manor

    - At the end of every fun-filled day, you can unwind with cocktails served by attentive staff, while watching the sun descend over Ngorongoro.
