"Raised into old baobabs, some of the rooms at Treetops are spectacular. The location is the only issue for me, as I find it hard to stay outside such an outstanding park."

OVERVIEW:

If a unique experience is what you are looking for, Tarangire Treetops Lodge is definitely worth a look. Treetops is undeniably high-end, reflecting the high price it costs to stay here. If you’ve ever had a desire to stay in a tree, then this is your chance. Set in the branches of grand baobabs and marula trees, the large rooms are raised up into the trees and celebrate local craftsmanship.

The property is owned and operated by Elewana Collection, a company with a portfolio full of unique camps and lodges in iconic locations. However, please be aware that the lodge is located outside the national park and some distance from the best game-viewing in the area. Other lodges such as Oliver’s Camp and Swala Camp do not have this disadvantage, at substantially better prices. They are also much smaller and more intimate camps.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Treetops is in its own private game reserve. This reserve is set just outside the north-eastern border of Tarangire National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT TARANGIRE TREETOPS LODGE:

‘Treetops’ is the country’s only genuine tree lodge, and famously attracts its guests primarily due to its unique design – the main area and some of the twenty rooms are raised up into old baobab trees. The gorgeous rooms and main areas are truly beautiful, while both the guiding and the service suit a lodge aiming at this price bracket. The main area is formed around a thousand-year-old baobab tree and has a bar-and-dining area that looks out over the infinity swimming pool. The very large guest bedrooms are open-fronted and have authentic African décor. As well as being in a tree, these rooms have private balconies with incredible views across the Tarangire plains.

Meals are served either in the open-plan dining area or on the outside deck, and the food is a fusion of international and African bush cuisine. There’s an outdoor boma where cultural evenings can be enjoyed, featuring a delicious buffet and a Maasai performance.

**Please be aware that we are unable to book this property for families with young children under the age of 6 years, for safety reasons relating to the balconies/decks/walkways.**

ACTIVITIES AT TARANGIRE TREETOPS LODGE:

Tarangire Treetops Lodge has a few activities on offer:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    – Tarangire is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania and offers huge numbers of elephant, tree-climbing lions, herds of resident zebra and wildebeest, and many more species of common game, including waterbuck, giraffe, and olive baboons.
  • Birding safaris

    – The area is home to more than 550 species of bird, and Tarangire is a real haven for birding enthusiasts. The swamps are the focus of the largest selection of breeding birds anywhere in the world. Yellow-collared lovebirds are commonly seen along the Tarangire river.
  • Night game drives

    – These offer a rare opportunity to see the bush come alive after dark.
  • Walking safaris

    – Bush walks are ideal for anyone hoping to take a close look at some smaller species.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
