OVERVIEW:

Providing a private vehicle and guide as standard, this classic camp offers one of the highest-quality tented safaris in the Serengeti region!

Mila is a luxury property, owned and run by Legendary Expeditions. Mila is renowned for the quality of its activities, as well as its superb service standards – this really is one of the best tented camps in this area! Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, privately guided game drives and night drives, walking safaris, cultural experience with the Hadza and Da’toga and a laundry service. Guests staying for three nights or more enjoy a complimentary day trip to Ndutu or the Southern Serengeti! The camp is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Mila Tented Camp is situated in the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park. Located just south of Grumeti Reserves, is an area known as Nyasirori which is renowned for excellent year-round game viewing.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MILA TENTED CAMP:

There are six tents, including one tent for family use. All standard-size tents are sufficiently spacious to accommodate an extra bed. Each is spaced a good distance away from its neighbour, and every tent faces a different direction, so there’s ample privacy. All tents are mounted on a stone platform. Part of the platform is pleasantly shaded by the canvas roof, providing a lovely veranda where you can sit and enjoy your views! Inside, you’ll find a double bed or twin beds (triple if required), in addition to bedside stands and lighting, and plenty of storage space. Amenities include mosquito nets and safe. The en-suite facilities are set out on one side of the tent, and they comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, and shower. The family tent benefits from all the features of the standard tent, in addition to a second bedroom.

Mila’s communal spaces are housed in a large mess tent, also positioned on a platform made out of stone. The lounge contains comfy sofas and armchairs around a chunky coffee table, with a standing fan nearby. In the dining area, there’s one big table where everyone eats together, flanked by classic safari chairs. A few wildlife pictures adorn the walls, and there’s an additional table for a selection of beverages! The palette throughout the mess tent includes warm honey tones, reflecting the local Hadza tribe’s appreciation of honey and mirroring the hues of the surrounding bush. Just outside the tent, there’s a veranda where you can relax and marvel at the scenery. Head back down the steps, and you’ll arrive at the camp’s fire-pit – this is where guests gather to socialise and to swap their safari stories! Bush dining and sundowners are available too.

ACTIVITIES AT MILA TENTED CAMP:

The camp offers a great range of activities:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - All parties have access to a private vehicle and guide, and as Mila camp is located in the Serengeti, guests have the chance of spotting all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Other predators you can look out for include cheetah, hyenas, jackals, and wild dog, while the herbivore count features giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and all sorts of antelopes. There are hundreds of bird species too.
  • Walking safaris

    - Also accompanied by a knowledgeable and experienced guide, walks are perfect for safarists interested in close scrutiny of the reserve’s smaller lives, such as its plants and insects. You can enjoy further birding too, sighting raptors, songbirds and waterbirds.
  • Fly camping

    - Positioned on the Rift Valley escarpment, Mwiba’s fly camp is made up of four tents. Please note, the experience requires advance booking and the minimum age requirement is 8 years. Guests are driven out to the location, or you can walk from the main camp… or you can even travel via helicopter! Once you’ve arrived, you’ll tuck in to dinner around the campfire. After that, you’ll bed down for the night, with a watchman on hand to keep you safe. You’ll return to main camp the following morning.
  • Cultural experiences

    - Travellers with a keen interest in culture will relish interactions with the local tribes – the Maasai, Hadzabe, Datoga, and Sukuma. These range from storytelling and dancing to foraging and making bows-and-arrows.
  • Helicopter tours

    - This is a new activity at Mila, offering thrilling bird’s-eye views over the reserve.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
