The latest offering from Nimali Africa, Nimali Mara looks set to be a smart, contemporary, and good-value addition to the camps in the northern region of the Serengeti!
Nimali Mara is the latest offering from Nimali Africa. At present, this company runs two other camps – Nimali Central Serengeti and Nimali Tarangire. The name Nimali means ‘wealth’ in Swahili, and it was chosen to reflect the company’s belief that Africa’s greatest wealth lies in the continent’s nature. We anticipate that, in common with the other properties, the accommodation will be booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, activities, Wi-Fi, and a laundry service. Nimali Mara will be open throughout the year.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
The camp will be accessed via 35 minutes’ road transfer from Kogatende Airstrip. It has a fabulous location in the remote northern region of the Serengeti, in a small kopje amongst boulders and trees. The famous River Mara is just 30 minutes’ drive away!
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT NIMALI MARA:
There will be ten suites, including two suites for honeymooners. The honeymoon suites will be able to join together, to provide a suite for families. We’re told that each suite will feature fixed wooden doors, and the artist’s impression shows a modern take on the classic safari tent design. Inside a standard-size suite, there’ll be a double bed or twin beds with mosquito netting, bedside stands and lighting, a writing desk and chair, and additional amenities such as an overhead fan, a tea-and-coffee station, an electronic safe, and a hairdryer. The en-suite facilities, set up to one side of the bedroom area, will comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, double showers, and a brass bathtub. Nimali has not yet provided details about the other accommodation options, but as soon as we’ve received these we’ll pass them on to you. For now, it’s worth mentioning that every suite will boast a private plunge pool.
Currently very little information is available about the communal spaces at Nimali Mara. But the company tells us that the entire camp will merge seamlessly with its natural surroundings, amongst the North Serengeti’s boulders and trees. In common with the guest suites, the main building will have a contemporary style, and it’ll be pretty opulent too. Based on our experience of other Nimali camps, we reckon the lounge will feature comfortable seating around coffee tables and a selection of reading material, while the dining area should be a pretty chic affair. And we know for sure that there’ll be an infinity pool within a natural cave! The pool will be perfect for relaxation in between activities here.
ACTIVITIES AT NIMALI MARA:
So far, we know that the camp will offer the following activities:
Expertly guided game drives– These will be available during early morning and late afternoon into evening. The northern region of the Serengeti is characterised by savanna, open woodlands, hills, and water sources such as the famous River Mara. All year round, you can look out for a wealth of wildlife, not least the Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. Smaller predators and herbivores in residence include cheetah, hyenas, jackals, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, and all sorts of antelopes. And there are hundreds of types of bird, from raptors to songbirds to water-dwelling species.
Great Migration viewing– Visit Nimali Mara during the period from July to October, and you’ll be well placed to witness the spectacular Great Migration. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles move around the North Serengeti during these months in their search for food. Where river crossings are involved, you’ll likely see Nile crocodile lurking in the waters, while the sheer volume of herbivores results in impressive concentrations of big cats roaming the plains.
