This trip begins in Arusha, Tanzania’s gateway town to the famous Northern Circuit. It continues on to Karatu, for the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara, and then to the Serengeti. Lastly you’ll enjoy some beach time, on Zanzibar!

The first stop on your safari is Arusha’s Rivertrees. Situated just outside the vibrant town, this is a characterful country inn that’s perfect for taking time to relax following your flight. Next, you’ll travel to Endoro Lodge, in Karatu. This property provides a luxurious base from which to visit the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. Naona Moru Camp is your third stop – it’s a very elegant camp in the Central/Southern Serengeti, and travellers staying for four nights get one night free! And finally you’ll head out to the idyllic island of Zanzibar, to Pongwe Beach Hotel, for some well-earned laidback beach time.

Days 1-2 Arusha

On Day 1 of your trip, you’ll fly out to Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer by road to Rivertrees. Your accommodation will be a River Cottage. Each cottage nestles into tall tree thickets on the banks of the Usa river, with the soothing sound of the water rushing by. The rooms can be configured as doubles or twins, and they feature a separate seating area, a cosy fireplace, and well-appointed en-suite facilities including an outdoor shower. Towels and toiletries are supplied. Rivertrees’ communal spaces include a charming lounge, restaurant and bar, massage hut, and swimming pool. There are gorgeous gardens too, lovely for a relaxing stroll.

Days 2-3 Karatu

After your night in Arusha, you’ll transfer by road to Endoro Lodge, in Karatu. Excitingly, this journey involves a game drive in Lake Manyara N.P.! Wildlife highlights abound here, not least vast flocks of flamingo and the park’s famous tree-climbing lions. On the next day, you’ll head out to the Ngorongoro Crater. This spectacular caldera is home to all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – in addition to numerous smaller predators and herbivores. There are flocks of flamingo here too! Your accommodation while at Endoro will be as many chalets as you require – singles, doubles, and triples are available. All options are spacious, and they include comfy beds, an immersion tub, and a private veranda. The lodge itself has a comfortable lounge, dining area, and bar. You can tuck into delicious meals outside too, and there’s also a swimming pool. Activities in the local area include walking in Endoro’s own banana and coffee plantations, visiting the Elephant Caves, biking through a few villages, and hiking on the Ngorongoro Crater rim.

Days 4-7 Serengeti National Park

On the fourth day, you’ll fly from Lake Manyara Airport to the Serengeti’s Seronera Airstrip. From the airstrip, you’ll transfer by road to Naona Moru. This camp has a classic mess tent for its lounge, dining area, and bar. The tent has a very pleasant veranda, where you can enjoy amazing views! In the grounds, there’s a fire-pit where guests gather to socialise and swap safari stories. You’ll stay in any number of safari tents. These benefit from a large four-poster bed or twin beds, a comfy lounge area, a smart shower room, and a private veranda where you can marvel at the Serengeti’s sweeping plains! Activities focus on game drives, which take place twice per day. The wildlife in this central/southern region of the national park features all Big Five, as well as cheetah, caracal, serval, African wildcat, giraffe, zebra, and ample antelopes. There are lots of birds too, not least 34 types of raptor, six types of vulture, plus ostrich, lesser flamingo, crowned crane, and secretary bird!

Days 8-12 Zanzibar

Now it’s time to hit the beach! You’ll fly from Seronera Airstrip to Zanzibar’s international airport and transfer by road to Pongwe Beach Hotel. Your accommodation here will be seafront rooms. These occupy white-wash thatch-roof cottages, and they’re decorated in an authentic Zanzibari style. Room features include a homely seating area, a well-equipped shower room, and a shady veranda boasting breathtaking ocean views! The hotel’s lounge, restaurant, and bar are housed in a large timber-and-thatch structure amidst palm trees close to the beach. There’s also a very inviting infinity pool. You could spend a lot of time sunbathing on the beach’s pure white sands and splashing about in its clear blue waters, but if you’re feeling energetic Pongwe offers snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, mountain biking, and more! Staff are happy to arrange excursions to various parts of the island too – for example, Stone Town, Jozani Forest, and the turtle sanctuary at Nungwi.
