The waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa

Once you have arrived in Cape Town, you’ll stay at Clarendon Bantry Bay for three nights. This is a small yet fabulously formed guesthouse in the quiet suburb of Bantry Bay, on the slopes of the majestic Lion’s Head. Situated on the road linking Sea Point and Clifton, the Clarendon is tucked well away from the touristy parts of Cape Town and feels like a private haven. The elegant lounge and dining areas boast beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean, while the property’s garden contains a lovely sundeck and swimming pool. The Clarendon is a first-rate base for exploring Cape Town. It’s close to the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain, the vibrant city centre, and the brilliant beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay!

Days 4–6 WINELANDS

babylonstoren, south africa

From Cape Town, it’s a short hop to the Winelands, where you will be staying two nights at the boutique hotel and working wine farm Babylonstoren. Set in a stunning location in the Drakenstein valley, this property’s carefully restored Cape Dutch-style buildings are set in over 3.5 hectares of gardens – there is even a prickly pear maze! The communal areas have a homely farmhouse feel, with their thick whitewashed walls and cosy fireplaces. There is also a fine assortment of restaurants, including Babel, which sources ingredients from the property’s own gardens and is housed in an old cow shed! Babylonstoren also has a wine-tasting room, where you can enjoy the farm’s own selection of wines. The guest accommodation consists of a range of different accommodation options either garden or vineyard facing, all with access to an outdoor swimming pool as well as a hot spa area featuring sauna, salt room, and vitality pool. The hotel is perfectly positioned for you to explore the Winelands. Tours are available every day and guests are encouraged to get involved with life on the farm!

Days 6–10 SABI SANDS

The last part of this South Africa highlights tour takes place in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, where you will stay at Kirkman’s Kamp for four nights. This property is an old homestead, dating back to the 1920s and renowned for its abundant charm. The lounge and dining areas are truly sumptuous, with views out on to rolling lawns. Within the gardens, there’s a stunning infinity pool, which overlooks Kirkman’s Reserve. All of the suites have impressive vistas too. They merge old-world character and modern comforts to excellent effect! We love the glamorous en-suite bathrooms, each featuring a big claw-foot tub. Kirkman’s activities include morning and afternoon game drives, tracking, and photographic safaris. Private safaris are available too! Game viewing is prolific as Kirkman’s shares a direct border with the Kruger itself and sits overlooking the Sand River - its not uncommon to have frequent wild visitors in and around the lodge itself.
