Days 1–5 LOWER ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK

lion, zambias hidden luxuries, trips

The safari starts with four nights at Chiawa. Family owned and operated, Chiawa Camp is one of Zambia’s premier luxury safari camps. Everything is of the highest standard here, from the sheer quality of guiding to the conservation ethos, the fine dining, and the cotton bedsheets. The communal area is a fantastic wooden two-tiered structure with great views over the river. The tents offer about 100 square metres, and consist of a canvas roof, canvas walls, a super-king bed, a lounge area, and a luxurious bathroom complete with a roll-top bath and twin washbasins. Each of the tents boasts views over the Zambezi river and its vast array of resident wildlife, including elephant, lion, leopard, hippo, and crocodiles. It’s the ideal base for exploring the area, on day and night game drives, walks, and river safaris.

Days 5–9 KAFUE NATIONAL PARK

elephant boating, zambias hidden luxuries, trips

On Day 5 of your adventure, you will fly to Kafue National Park for the second part of your safari. Wilderness Shumba has a superb location, which overlooks the seasonal floodplains in every direction. It is built high above the ground and is linked by wooden walkways, with grass roofs and long extended decking. The main area includes a swimming pool, a lounge, a dining and bar area, as well as an outdoor sunken lounge with a star deck, great for stargazing into the night. There are just six luxury suites at Wilderness Shumba, and all are raised on wooden platforms. With a focus on observing the wilderness from all angles, the camp boasts scenic views from your bed, the various seating areas, and even from the outdoor showers! The main safari focus at Wilderness Shumba is game driving, but at the start of the season boating safaris are also an option.
