When To Visit South Luangwa National Park:

Nkwali Camp is a great place for clients who wish to combine game driving and walking in their safari. They can start off with a couple of nights here, before continuing on to the walking-focused bush camps.

OVERVIEW:
Overall, this is a superb camp to start at, but one that does not excite us. Nevertheless, as with all of the Robin Pope camps, guiding is of a very high standard. It is the main base of Robin Pope Safaris, one of the leading operators in the area.

ACCESS & LOCATION:
Nkwali Camp is located in a small private reserve in Mfuwe sector, just outside South Luangwa National Park

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
Nkwali consists of six bamboo-and-thatch rooms overlooking Luangwa River. They are cool and spacious, and have ensuite bathrooms. The camp also has a good-sized swimming pool, making it less of a ‘bush camp’ than the majority of camps in the valley.

ACTIVITIES:
The game viewing is excellent here. Elephant can often be seen crossing the river or visiting the waterhole by the camp, and there are regular sightings of lion and leopard – and occasionally wild dog. However, the Mfuwe area is substantially busier than more remote driving and walking areas, as it is the focus of most of the Luangwa’s hotels and camps.

It is also an ideal and very good value option for clients who are only interested in game driving in the Luangwa.

"Nkwali has a great location and private access into the park across a man powered pontoon. A real highlight for many!"
