OVERVIEW:
We think the Zanzibar Palace epitomises Stone Town – it is a lovely place to stay. Since the opening of this hotel in 2006, we have only had favourable reviews. Simply put, when you compare the Zanzibar Palace Hotel to other, arguably more famous hotels in Stone Town, you get a much better hotel here than you do elsewhere.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
A five minute walk from the beach and a 10 minute drive from the airport, Zanzibar Palace Hotel is well located in Stone Town on Zanzibar Island.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ZANZIBAR PALACE:
The nine rooms are a wonderful mix of Indian, Arab and English influences, giving an insight into Zanzibar's rich history. They are beautifully furnished with Persian rugs, colourful silks and some lovely Zanzibar antiques. The two fabulous suites, Dunia and Sherali, are situated at the top of the building and have stunning views of the old town. These are two of the best rooms to be found in Stone Town.
One of the negatives of this hotel is that the restaurant is on the bottom floor rather than on the roof so one cannot enjoy the view, however most guests in Stone Town choose to eat out at other restaurants anyway. There is also the added benefit that taxis can drive right up to the front of the property, so guests don't have to tackle the narrow dark streets of Stone Town after a dinner out in town.
ACTIVITIES AT ZANZIBAR PALACE:
- At the hotel, guests can enjoy a relaxing massage treatment at the onsite spa.
- If guests would like to explore Stone Town, there are local excursions to the Old Fort and the Palace Museum, and fragrant spice tours.
- Boat trips to Prison Island can be organised to witness the population of giant tortoises as well as trips to Jozani Forest to see the resident red colobus monkeys.
