It is an exclusive beach resort and, in our view, a contender for Zanzibar’s best property. However, the rooms are some of the most expensive on the island! Baraza combines beautiful architecture, excellent service, fabulous villas and numerous activities. However, it is situated in a busy area of Zanzibar, so it is not suitable for travellers who want a quiet hotel away from the crowds.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Baraza Zanzibar is located on the southern of the two huge beaches that run down Zanzibar’s East Coast, about 45 minutes’ drive from Stone Town and the airport. One word of warning – it is difficult to get into this property in peak season (July, August, September and December).
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
The architecture is beautiful, with a definite Arabic influence. There are 15 single-bedroom villas, 14 two-bedroom suites and a two-bedroom Presidential Villa. The villas are beautifully designed and decorated, with dramatic Swahili arches, hand-carved furniture and sumptuous fabrics. They are extremely spacious and each has its own private plunge pool.
Service is excellent and there are lots of activities available. The Water Club offers numerous activities, including kite surfing, windsurfing and sailing. The Frangipani Spa has its own lap pool, a fitness room and a tennis court.
