"The Nimali collection of camps is a fairly new safari company but one that offers high standards of accommodation in a crowded market. This is a very decent little camp albeit one that remains fairly untested by YZ clients."

OVERVIEW:

Previously Nimali Central Serengeti, this property has been relocated to a new site within the national park and is due to open in Summer 2024. Offering a higher level of comfort in a quieter area, it’s an excellent option all year round.

Owned and operated by Nimali Africa, Nimali Serengeti is the sister camp of Nimali Mara and Nimali Tarangire. The company believes that nature is Africa’s finest asset, and this is reflected in its name, which means ‘wealth’. The price of your stay here includes accommodation, all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, most activities, parking, Wi-Fi, and a laundry service. The camp is open throughout the year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Nimali Serengeti is situated close to Makoma Hill, within a wildlife-rich area of the national park that’s near one of the main routes of the Great Migration. The camp is usually accessed via flight from Arusha to Seronera Airstrip, followed by 40 minutes’ game drive road transfer. Set up on the savanna of the Serengeti, it boasts breathtaking views over the plains!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT NIMALI SERENGETI:

Guest accommodation consists of 12 tents, set up along the plains. The family units are positioned at each end of the line, for added privacy. Inside each standard suite, there’s a four-poster double bed or twin beds, bedside and overhead lighting, a writing desk and chair, ample storage space, and a separate seating area with two comfy chairs and a small table. Amenities include mosquito nets, a standing fan, a telephone, a tea-and-coffee station, a mini-bar, an in-room safe, and a hairdryer. A gym basket is available on request. The en-suite facilities comprise a separate flush toilet, twin washbasins, and a bathtub with a shower over, and there’s an outdoor shower too. Sliding doors from the bedroom open onto a private deck, with further seating – the perfect place to admire your Serengeti views! Each family unit is made up of two standard suites, and it’s possible to add an extra bed to all rooms. Inspired by the landscape, the décor has a contemporary fresh feel and features a mainly neutral palette with rather opulent notes of antique brass.

Nimali Serengeti’s communal lounge and dining area echo this opulence and even enhance it a little. In the lounge, you’ll find sumptuous seating in a range of fabrics, positioned around a variety of tables and other furnishings where you can rest a drink. There’s elegant lighting and cosy rugs too. The front of the structure is entirely open, affording exhilarating vistas over the park. The dining area is equally blessed with views, the more so for being open sided as well. Furnishings are very chic and comfortable, and an adjoining deck provides al fresco dining. If you enjoy eating out, you can request a champagne bush breakfast, bush lunch, or bush dinner. Sundowners are also available. And the camp offers a range of spa treatments and wellness therapies, for a spot of pampering between activities. There’s a fire-pit, where you can gather with fellow travelers to relax and share your safari stories! Finally, there’s a pool deck too.

ACTIVITIES AT NIMALI SERENGETI:

Things to do from Nimali Central Serengeti focus on viewing the park’s abundant wildlife, primarily on expertly guided game drives.

  • Expertly guided game drives

    – The savanna, woodlands, and riverine forests of the Serengeti provide habitats for a wide range of species. All Big Five are in residence – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. You can also look out for smaller predators, such as cheetah, hyenas, jackals, and wild dog, and numerous plains game including giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, and oodles of antelopes! From May to June and October to December each year, the Central Serengeti plays host to the famous Great Migration, so if you visit during these months you can expect to see huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles. All year round, the park is home to approximately 500 types of feathery friend, among them Maasai ostrich, raptors, marabou stork, crowned crane, lesser flamingo, and lovebirds.
  • Hot air balloon rides

    – A thrilling add-on to your Serengeti safari, balloon rides involve an early morning launch shortly before dawn, to watch the sun rise over the national park. This activity is a must for anyone excited at the prospect of a bird’s-eye view! After a couple of hours in the air, you’ll descend to a delightful champagne breakfast in the bush, a real treat.
  • Children’s activities

    – Nimali Serengeti offers things to do for children too. For more information about these, or about anything else to do with staying at the reimagined camp when it opens this Summer, please get in touch with a member of the YZ team.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
