“We have visited Waterberry numerous times and always really enjoyed our stay. It is very comfortable, excellent value, and has great food. If you want a well-priced quiet getaway while based at the Falls, Waterberry is perfect.”

OVERVIEW:

Waterberry is a Classic level lodge in the Victoria Falls region, and it receives consistently fantastic feedback. It is owner-run and also has one of the loveliest settings of any Victoria Falls property on either side of the river. The site includes The River Farmhouse, a four-bedroom private house nearby. All farmhouse guests are welcome to use the communal facilities at Waterberry Lodge. The price of your stay at Waterberry includes accommodation, all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, morning and afternoon in-house activities, airport transfers, and a laundry service. The lodge is open throughout the year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Waterberry Lodge is tucked away on the banks of the Zambezi on the Zambia side. It’s located approximately 35 minutes’ drive from Livingstone and is within easy reach of Victoria Falls. A small lodge, situated about 750 metres from the Zambezi waterfront, it’s able to guarantee a quiet stretch of river and provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of the Falls region itself.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT WATERBERRY LODGE:

Guest accommodation consists of seven brick-and-thatch cottages, including one cottage for family use. All are set around gardens including lush lawns on the banks of the Zambezi river. They are spaced well apart, ensuring ample privacy, and each is named after a bird found around the lodge and gardens. All benefit from nets to keep away the mosquitoes, as well as air conditioning and overhead fans – they’re also kept cool as they’re open to their high thatch roofing. The furnishings are light and elegant, and every cottage has a private veranda where you can relax and enjoy amazing views! Some cottages overlook the river, others the property’s private dam, and still others with vistas of the dam, pool, and/or gardens. Cottages are available with a double bed (Swallow, Weaver, Sunbird), a double plus a single in an alcove (Jacana, Heron, good for families), either a double or twins (Wagtail), or double downstairs and twin on mezzanine (Owl, the family unit, also with ground-floor lounge and family bathroom). En-suite facilities vary too – for example, some rooms offer a shower room and separate toilet, while other options provide a full bathroom. Please get in touch with a member of the YZ team to discuss which cottage would best suit your requirements.

Many of the communal facilities at Waterberry Lodge are housed in a double-storey building, which boasts breathtakingly beautiful views over the river and into Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park! The comfortable lounge occupies the upper floor. Also open to thatch, it features well-cushioned wood-framed seating around coffee tables, some wildlife wall artwork, various intriguing artefacts, a collection of old maps of Africa, and a range of reading material. You could even enjoy a little armchair safari here, as wildlife is often spotted on the opposite bank of the river! Downstairs, you’ll find a chic dining area, which is the setting for delicious meals. Guests are welcome to dine on the lodge’s sun terrace too, as well as on the deck, which incorporates a fire-pit. The gardens, complete with conservation area, are perfect for a relaxing stroll, while the swimming pool is fabulous for cooling off between activities.

ACTIVITIES AT WATERBERRY LODGE:

Waterberry is a lovely place to simply relax, but it’s also a superb base from which to enjoy the many activities available in this region. Both ‘in house’ and ‘external’ options are offered, as follows:

  • Zambezi cruises

    – Guests can head out on dawn, daytime, and sunset cruises from the lodge. Sundowners and snacks are provided, and you can enjoy wildlife watching, island picnic, and even excursions up the river, to visit the local village.
  • Fishing

    – This activity can be included in a river cruise too. It’s offered on a catch-and-release basis, and anglers can fish for the likes of tiger fish and bream.
  • Birding

    – The grounds of Waterberry itself are full of vibrant birdlife. Guests interested in birdspotting in other areas can explore Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and Livingstone Sewage Ponds in the company of an expert guide!
  • Village walk

    – Fantastic for culture enthusiasts, walks from the lodge involve being shown around the local village by Waterberry’s own staff. And the costs you pay are donated to the village headmen, for the benefit of their communities.
  • Town tour

    – Tours of Livingstone Town are possible, taking in Maramba Market and a number of museums.
  • Falls tour

    – This type of excursion is available during the morning and the afternoon. A knowledgeable guide leads guests through the beautiful rainforest, passing on fascinating information about the world’s largest waterfall and happily answering any questions. A must-do!
  • White water rafting

    – Something for adrenaline junkies! Vic Falls boasts the world’s wildest white water, making rafting on the River Zambezi a really thrilling experience.
  • Scenic helicopter flights

    – For breathtaking vistas over the Falls from the air, why not hop on board a helicopter? You’ll enjoy several loops and, if you wish, a prolonged journey farther upstream to see more of the Zambezi river.

*This property is unfenced and although animal densities are not that high along this stretch of the Zambezi River, there is always the potential for dangerous game. So if you opt to stay here please always be cautious and look out for wildlife when walking around, especially at night.
