All the properties we sell here provide an amazing range of things to do – watersports from windsurfing to deep sea fishing, as well as land sports such as golf and tennis, and the excellent activity of just messing about on the beach. However, if you are looking for hotels and resorts that cater particularly well for children and your family holiday, just read on…
First off, we have Constance Belle Mare Plage, on the east coast, an hour from the airport. Set in 15 hectares of tropical gardens and boasting a beach that stretches to 2km, this is one of the island’s largest resorts! Its communal facilities include lots of lounges and restaurants, four pools, two golf courses, and even a shopping arcade, with buildings featuring palm-thatch roofs and marble floors. All rooms and suites come with air conditioning, a sitting area, satellite television, free Wi-Fi, and well-appointed bath- or shower room. Alternatively, you could splash out and book a villa! Each villa has its own plunge pool and provides private check-in arrangements and private dining options.
As well as all this, there is Constance Kids Club, for youngsters aged 4–11 years – you can book them in at any time during your stay. Amenities include a swimming pool, open play areas, computer stations, and outdoor space for games such as running relays! Various programmes are available too, such as Arts & Crafts and Cookery. There is a babysitting service and baby equipment on request. Staff members are fully qualified and super-friendly, so your kids are guaranteed a good time here!
Moving along the east coast, we come to LUX* Belle Mare, newly refurbished and redecorated by the fabulous Kelly Hoppen. This too is set in gorgeous gardens and with a brilliant beach for sunbathing and frolicking in the sea. There is a super selection of restaurants, a gym, and a relaxing spa. You could book interleading rooms or suites – these contain all mod cons, plus a private terrace or balcony! Or, for a special treat, you might like to consider a villa, with private pool and patio garden. Whichever option you select, you will be very comfortable here on your family holiday!
LUX* Belle Mare has an ace kids club – and a teens club too! The kids club is called Play and it is for ages 3 to 11. It is open until 10pm every day, with loads of things to do! There is a splash pool, an outdoor cooking school, an interactive buffet station, an e-zone, a reading corner, and a quiet zone – so whether your youngsters are outgoing or more inclined to enjoy time to themselves, there is something to suit them here! Special activities include The Cake Boss every Friday afternoon, when kids can make and decorate a cake, followed by a film in the evening. If they wish, children can take tennis lessons! The teens club is for youngsters aged 12 to 17. It has a pool table, table football, table tennis, an iMac station, and loads of board games! If your teens are mad about music, they will love the DJ zone. Local language and dance classes are available too, as well as beach sports and excursions around the island. Again, all members of staff are fully qualified and keen to make sure the youngsters have a fantastic family holiday!
Another first-rate family resort on the east coast, is Le Touessrok. This property closed for renovations from April to November 2015 and reopened to rave reviews! Occupying a lovely long stretch of coastline in addition to two islands, ‘Le Tou’ has a superb setting. Its timber-and-thatch buildings merge effortlessly into the natural surroundings and include comfy lounge areas, five restaurants, and a spa. There are also two pools, an 18-hole championship golf course, and a shopping arcade! As at the other east coast resorts, you can choose to book interleading rooms and suites or your very own villa. All accommodation options have mod cons aplenty and the villas boast private garden grounds with swimming pool, private beach access, 24-hour butler service, electric car for resort use, personalised bathrobes, and a daily presentation of fresh fruit!
Like LUX*, Le Tou provides both a kids club and a teens club. T-Club, the kids club, is open from 9am to 10pm each day. Available to youngsters aged from 4 to 11 years, it consists of a clubhouse providing loads of sports – golf, tennis, windsurfing, swimming – and lots of other programmes. The Teens Club is for ages 12 to 17. This involves oodles of sports too, plus outings, dancing, and themed evenings. All ages get complimentary meals! There is a babysitting service at additional cost.
Leaving the east coast, we take a trip to the south and specifically to Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort. This property is situated on the very scenic Domaine de Bel Ombre. It is one of the highest-rated resorts on Mauritius, receiving numerous awards for its five-star facilities! Lounge areas, four restaurants, a library, a gym, a salon… Heritage Awali has everything you need to enjoy your beach break in style. As at the east coast resorts, you can book interleading rooms/suites or a private villa! Everything comes with abundant mod cons and the villa boasts its own lounge/diner, terrace, and pool. This resort provides not only a kids club and a teens club, but a baby club too! The baby club consists of six highly trained nurses to look after infants aged 2 years and under, every day of the week, from 8.30am to 4pm. There is a concierge service as well, supplying necessities such as milk, wipes, and nappies. Baby services must be booked 12 hours in advance. Heritage Awali’s kids club is also pretty special. Here, children aged 2 to 11 can enjoy sports and fitness classes, dancing, and cooking during the day, while evening activities include cinema, camping, star gazing, and looking for crabs on the beach! And teens get to try out lots of sports too, in addition to local excursions such as quad biking in local Fédérica Nature Reserve.
Heading south-west, we come to the aptly named Paradis Hotel & Golf Club! This property is located on Le Morne peninsula, with superb views of the famous basaltic monolith. Its characterful wood-and-thatch communal structures are home to an impressive range of restaurants, a Clarins spa, and lots of lovely lounges. The hotel also contains a great golf course, a sports centre, and a spacious swimming pool! You can pick interconnecting rooms/suites or opt for a lavish villa. All options are chic and comfortable, with the villa providing a large living room with home cinema, a fully equipped kitchen, and a BBQ! Although Paradis does not have a kids or teens (or babies!) club as such, it is a very family-friendly property, with beaches on a protected peninsula and a top-notch babysitting service run by a fully qualified team. Staff members are on hand to organise activities for children, so parents can take time for themselves with peace of mind that the little ones are being well looked after!
Our final top property for families, is Sugar Beach, on the west coast of Mauritius. Set within 12 hectares of tropical gardens and a 1km stretch of beautiful beaches, Sugar Beach has been designed to resemble a sugar plantation from colonial times! At the centre of the estate, is the imposing Manor House and surrounds – these buildings house comfy lounges and a great range of restaurants. There is also a gym, a spa, a library, and a shopping emporium! You can choose to stay either in interleading suites or rooms – both options include all mod cons and a private terrace with lounger, ottoman, and sofa, perfect for enjoying sea views.
Sugar Beach has a kids club and a teens club, both offering lots of things to do! The kids club provides a full programme of activities, such as swimming, mini-golf, tennis, windsurfing, and some exciting excursions too! Teens can take part in sports and excursions too, as well as party nights. Woo-hoo! A babysitting service is available at extra cost and there is a special kids menu. This is another resort where parents can relax and enjoy themselves, knowing that the youngsters are in safe hands, making for one of the best family holiday options!
