Considering a beach break, solo style? Mauritius is a fabulous location!

Mauritius Solo Holidays

With its powder-soft white sands, sparkling turquoise waters, and tall palms rippling overhead, this idyllic island charms all who visit.

Whether you like to relax in the sun, get active with watersports, or enjoy a bit of both, Mauritius has something to suit every traveller. And the pick of our properties for solos consists of no fewer than four great resorts! Just read on to find out more…

We begin on the east coast of Mauritius, at the world-famous Shangri-La Le Touessrok Resort & Spa. This popular property closed for renovation in April 2015 and reopened in November the same year, boasting a new super-chic contemporary style. Set on a spectacular stretch of coastline, constructed from timber and thatch, Le Touessrok provides island living at its most luxurious. A holiday here really is a utopian experience!

The resort’s communal areas include five restaurants, two bars, two pools, and a shopping arcade. There are lots of lounge areas too, perfect for getting to know your fellow guests or spending some time with a good book – and of course there is the beach nearby for some serious sunbathing! All guest accommodation – totalling 200 rooms, suites, and villas – is positioned on the beachfront and is equipped with every mod con you could require for a comfortable stay. Satellite television, free Wi-Fi, mini bar, tea- and coffee-making facilities, a well-appointed bathroom… you might find it difficult to leave your room! However, head outside and you will find an excellent assortment of activities available – such as complimentary waterskiing, windsurfing, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing, plus kite surfing, big game fishing, undersea walking, and many more at extra charge. This is just a snapshot of all the things to do at Le Touessrok, so please visit our property page to find out all the details! There are land sports too, including tennis, badminton, volleyball, archery, and, of course, golf, on a course designed by Bernhard Langer. Nature trails are a lovely way to explore your surroundings – and when you need to unwind, you can book a session in the superb spa!

Our next stop in this tour of top properties for solo travellers, is Shanti Maurice, on Mauritius’ south coast. This, too, is a very luxurious resort! It is also very picturesque, occupying not only a stunning stretch of coastline but also some gorgeous gardens featuring lush lawns, peaceful ponds, and even a small indigenous forest. With 61 suites and villas, it is slightly smaller than most resorts on the island, which might appeal to some!

Shanti Maurice has two restaurants, the Fish Shack (right on the beach!), bars, a spa, a gym, and a yoga pavilion. There is a nice touch of authenticity in its rum shed, bringing a particularly Mauritian flavour to your drinking experience! There are five categories of guest accommodation – for solos, we recommend the Junior Suite, with comfy king-size bed, plasma TV, DVD player, internet access, and lovely views of the sea. Watersports here are non-motorised – windsurfing, snorkelling, kayaking, pedalos – and staff are happy to arrange for you to go waterskiing, scuba diving, and deep-sea fishing at alternative locations. If you fancy a round of golf, this is available at Heritage Golf Club, only 10 minutes away. Staff can organise a variety of other excursions, including a trip to the Blue Bay Marine Park and a visit to Chamarel for swimming with dolphins! Back at Shanti Maurice, there is tennis too, as well as meditation and cookery. And a very special activity, bestowing more of that Mauritian flavour, is dining at the home of a staff member’s own grandmother! In our view, this is a fantastic little extra treat.

Rounding the south coast, we arrive at Dinarobin Hotel Golf & Spa, another super-lux property! This is situated on the south-western tip of the island, on a scenic stretch of coastline close to the majestic mountain of Le Morne. This basaltic monolith was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 – something of interest to history fans!

Dinarobin is a pretty huge hotel, containing four restaurants, bars, and a spacious pool. It even has its own club, Club at Dinarobin, which boasts a colonial-style private lounge where you can relax with books, newspapers, and unlimited Wi-Fi! The Spa is owned by Clarins. Guests also have access to amenities at the nearby Paradis Hotel & Golf Club, so altogether there is an enormous range of amenities! The guest accommodation is set out in crescents within very pleasant gardens, with all except one crescent containing a heated pool. There are six suite options and we suggest booking a Junior Suite – or a Club Junior Suite, if you would like to be a member of Club at Dinarobin during your stay. All suites are air conditioned and include colonial features, a sizeable terrace or balcony, a dressing area, a spacious bathroom, a mini bar, and satellite television. They really are very comfortable, a brilliant base for relaxing in between activities. And there is loads to do here! The hotel’s own boat house provides a great selection of watersports, with more available from Paradis. The sports centre has a full range of gym equipment and offers classes in cardio, yoga, and vibro – fab for getting those muscles moving, if that is what you wish to do! Keen golfers will love playing on the 18-hole par-72 course – and two other courses are just 20 minutes’ drive away.

Also not far from Dinarobin, is The St. Regis Mauritius Resort, near Le Morne as well. Designed by universally renowned architects Staunch Vorster, this property certainly had the wow factor – it resembles a Victorian sugar-baron’s manor house! With an impressive estate too, including a stretch of the splendid south-west coast of Mauritius, St. Regis is a firm favourite with travellers who like a little colonial style.

This sprawling resort offers a marvellous mix of bars and restaurants, with cuisines including traditional Mauritian, Asian, and beachside gourmet! There is an exceptionally good spa, a spacious swimming pool, and a fully equipped fitness centre. Guest accommodation comprises a grand total of 172 rooms, suites, and villas, in six options. For solos, we recommend a Deluxe Room – you can choose either an ocean or garden view. As at Dinarobin, the units are presented in attractive crescents. They have first-rate features too, such as 40-inch LED television with DVD player, free Wi-Fi and butler service, mini bar, and private terrace or balcony. Once you have settled in, you can pop to the beach for a spot of sunbathing or a visit to the resort’s own watersports centre, from where you can get stuck in to all sorts of activities! Waterskiing, windsurfing, snorkelling, kayaking, pedal boats, glass-bottom boat rides… all these come free of charge. For extra, you can enjoy kite surfing, scuba diving, big-game fishing, catamaran cruises, and even swimming with dolphins off the west-coast bays! There is also a tennis court on site, and plenty of opportunities to get out and explore the local area, including hiking around Le Morne.

That completes our tour of the top properties for solo travellers on Mauritius. If anything appeals, just get in touch with us and together we will start planning an amazing holiday!
