Deception Valley Lodge is located in a private reserve just outside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. This is a very arid area with miles of bush stretching in every direction. Although many animals migrate here from the Okavango between November and May, game can be scarce during the dry season of June to October.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Set on 15,000 hectares of private reserve bordering the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
The lodge sits in light acacia woodland and has been designed to blend in with the background. The main area comprises a lounge, dining room and small library, decorated in rich Kalahari colours and furnished with Bushmen artefacts. Outside there is a deck where guests can watch wildlife come to the waterhole, and a swimming pool where guests can cool off.
The eight chalets are raised on stilts and connected to the main lodge area by low wooden walkways. Six are twin-bedded with a spacious lounge and Victorian-style en suite bathroom, while a further chalet has two interconnecting rooms, making it ideal for families.
This is not a game-rich area like the parks in the north. However, Deception Valley Lodge offers a wider range of activities than those in the park. Activities include game drives in 4x4's, night drives, birdwatching, nature walks with experienced guides, and best of all, interesting and informative walks with bushmen from the local San tribe.
