Kenya Couples Safari Holidays

Kenya is one of the finest places for a couples holiday, with some of our favourite luxury lodges and camps being located in the Greater Mara Conservancies.

Our favourite properties for couples’ safaris and holidays are located in the Greater Mara Conservancies, Meru National Park, the Samburu National Reserve, and Laikipia. All of these areas are truly top notch for safari activities, and all the camps and lodges we recommend define luxury. Just read on, to find out more!

Beginning in the Greater Mara Conservancies, there are three properties we simply adore. This area is situated around the Maasai Mara National Reserve, in the south of the country. It is popular with many of our client couples because it allows access to all the wealth of wildlife the MMNR contains, from a peaceful base camp, or lodge!

The first perfect property here, earning a big 10 out of 10, is Mara Plains. This camp is in the heart of the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, an area that is well off the beaten track and offers great game viewing! Mara Plains is accessed via a bridge over the Ntiakitiak River, lending a particularly private feel. Decorated in a colonial style, it oozes the spirit of a bygone age. There are only seven tents, so a stay here is a very exclusive experience! Every tent has a comfortable king-size bed, some sumptuous rugs, and a wonderful wraparound veranda for guests to enjoy many different vistas of the sprawling savanna. You can sit together on your veranda, have a glass of wine each, and watch the sunset – bliss!

Our second favourite property in the Greater Mara Conservancies is Angama Mara, which has a very lofty position on top of two kopjes rising high above the MMNR. With a grand total of 30 suites, Angama Mara is considerably larger than Mara Plains, but as it is split into two camps of 15 suites it retains the exclusive feel of a smaller property. The romance of the location is undeniable – in fact, the hilltop features in the 1985 film Out of Africa, starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep! Each suite features an 11-metres-wide floor-to-ceiling glass front, enabling you to marvel at those breathtaking views from sunrise to sunset. Not only are the beds king size, they are also extra length! With a palette that includes splashes of rich red, a suite at Angama Mara is like something out of a dream.

The final property we have to mention within this region is Kicheche Bush Camp, which, like Mara Plains, is situated within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. This camp is unfenced, offering a slightly wilder experience than its neighbour yet retaining a romantic flair! There are just six tents in total, spaced well apart from one another. All are very stylish, with white, cream, and earthy tones that merge seamlessly with the surrounding savanna and woodland to create the ultimate comfy camping experience! Here, the romance lies in the wildness of the camp. Together you can be great explorers, on a thrilling adventure!

The next property we recommend for couples is in Meru National Park, famous as the place where Joy Adamson and her husband George chose to release Elsa the lioness back into the wild. The quietness of Meru appeals to couples and the camp we have chosen is sure to charm. It is Elsa’s Kopje, a super-luxurious offering from the Elewana Collection. Positioned high up on Mughwango Hill, the camp boasts spectacular views and, among its accommodation options, a selection of cottages, perfect for a little romance! With thatched roofs and white-washed walls, these cottages are seriously cosy and ideal for private time.

We venture to the Samburu National Reserve to bring you another property with a lofty position and lovely rooms. This is Saruni Samburu Lodge, situated on top of a colossal red rock within the heartlands of the Kalama Conservancy, in the north of the Reserve. A long road leads up into the hills and the sheer magnificence of the view greets you as soon as you enter the Lodge! Breathtaking scenery over the Reserve also awaits you in your private villa. Each villa is very well appointed, with a touch of explorer chic about it, and you can lie back in your bathtub surrounded by the soft glow of candlelight.

Finally, we must mention one more property with amazing views! Loisaba Tented Camp perches on top of an escarpment within the Loisaba Conservancy, northern Laikipia. From camp, you can see all the way across plains, rivers, woods, to the majestic Mount Kenya on the horizon! Guest accommodation here consists of a mere six tents. The beds are large and comfortable, and it is a real treat to relax on your veranda with a bottle and two glasses of wine come sunset, watching the land become suffused with scarlet and gold.

If a stay in any of these properties appeals to you, do get in touch with a member of our team. We love putting together romantic itineraries and we are certain we have something to suit you!
