OVERVIEW:
The remote south-west of Hwange has not been available to travellers for well over a decade, so we are delighted that Imvelo has decided to pitch up here, with another high-quality property.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
It has its own airstrip, 55 minutes’ flight from Victoria Falls, with Jozibanini accessed by road transfer of about 15 minutes. The camp is situated within a private concession, with the closest tourist property just over four hours’ drive away! Sister camps Bomani, Camelthorn and Nehimba are six hours from Jozibanini – and Imvelo recommends visiting its latest camp as an add-on to a trip to one of the larger lodges. This may be an attractive option for many of our clients, as the journey between properties is provided as an extended game drive, complete with picnic!
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT JOZIBANINI CAMP:
Once you have reached Jozibanini, you will discover a relaxing open-plan lounge and dining area. Acacia trees provide plenty of cool shade, while guests sit back and gaze out across the Jozibanini Pan. Guest accommodation at Jozibanini Camp consists of just five tents, all positioned among camelthorn and shepherd’s bush trees that yield plenty of cooling shade. The tents are raised above ground level to maximise views of the surrounding landscape. Each unit can be configured as either a double or twins. All have an open-topped veranda that is large enough to fit a double bed or twin beds, providing the excellent activity of sleeping out under the stars. The beds look suitably comfy and the en-suite facilities feature flush toilet and classic bucket shower! Other amenities include mosquito nets and repellent, mobile LED lamp, and solar LED lighting.
ACTIVITIES AT JOZIBANINI CAMP:
- The main activity from camp is exploring the local area, on game drives and game walks.
- Rather unusually, guests can also enjoy experimental mountain biking! However you choose to check out this remote part of Hwange, you are guaranteed superb sights of sprawling sand dunes and valleys amid a semi-desert ecosystem. Paths sculpted by elephants’ feet over centuries provide fantastic routes for biking.
- Alternatively, you can head underground and experience Jozibanini’s special ‘Look-up’ hide, both by day and at night. This is a particularly exciting activity during a full moon, as the bright light illuminates all the nocturnal creatures!
- And if you opt to book a stay here as an add-on, transferring from Bomani, Camelthorn, or Nehimba, you can participate in a ‘pump run’ on the way to camp – this involves resupplying waterholes and is an awesome opportunity to learn about Imvelo’s role in caring for Hwange.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
