"With quite significant investment over the last few years, Leeu House has been transformed into one of my favourite properties in the Winelands. An absolutely beautiful boutique property with an excellent location on the Franschhoek high street."

OVERVIEW:

Leeu House is listed in the Leeu portfolio, which is made up of three high-quality properties, numerous excellent eateries, and some wonderful wine experiences, all within the scenic Winelands. This is one of our favorite guesthouses in the region, due to its fabulous location and very welcoming team! The accommodation is booked on a B&B basis, including in-room Nespresso, mini-bar items, national telephone calls, internet access, bicycle hire (subject to availability), a shuttle service between the guesthouse and Leeu Estates, and one tasting per guest per stay of Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines at Leeu Estates. Leeu House is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The guesthouse can be accessed via 75 kilometers’ road transfer from Cape Town. It’s situated in the heart of Franschhoek, with many top-rated restaurants just a short walk away!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT LEEU HOUSE:

Guest accommodation consists of just 12 rooms. All are beautifully styled, with a soothing neutral palette amidst touches of bronze and gold, and a number of interesting artworks. There are four room categories – Classic, Classic with Terrace, Deluxe, and Deluxe with Terrace. The Classic Room (32m²) is furnished with a double bed, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, an easy chair, and ample storage space. En-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins with mirrors over, and walk-in shower. Some washrooms offer a bathtub too! In the Classic with Terrace option, double doors lead out onto a terrace where guests enjoy mountain views. At 53m² this room type is larger than the Classic, with additional sofa beds that can sleep up to two children. The Deluxe Room measures 43m², and both rooms in this category benefit from pleasant vistas – one of the gardens, the other of the mountains. Finally, at 65m² the Deluxe with Terrace is the most spacious of all, and boasts a double walk-in dressing room and double sofa bed. It’s an excellent option for a family, especially as one of these rooms has a private patio!

The communal areas at Leeu House are equally well presented. In the lounge bar, comfortable seating surrounds chic little tables and there’s a very welcoming fireplace. The house’s restaurant is called The Conservatory, and its contemporary interior space flows out onto a delightful terrace within the grounds. This is the setting for breakfast every morning, with an all-day dining menu providing options suitable for brunch, lunch, dinner, and any times in between. There’s a children’s menu too, and an exciting array of treats for Afternoon Tea! Guests of Leeu House also enjoy access to gym and spa facilities at Leeu Estates. Of course, you’re welcome to relax in the house’s garden, which features well-kept lawns, mature palm trees, and some intriguing sculptures. There’s also a 15-meter pool, perfect for a refreshing dip and a little exercise!

*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a ground floor room for safety reasons.*

ACTIVITIES AT LEEU HOUSE:

Leeu House is conveniently positioned for guests to enjoy a wealth of attractions, both within Franschhoek and farther afield:

  • Dining

    - Franschhoek is home to a number of frankly world-class restaurants and cafés, not least La Petite Colombe at sister property Le Quartier Français.
  • Art galleries

    - Featuring the work of both local and South African artists, Franschhoek has really established itself as an art destination. A couple of our favorites are Galleria Gibello for wildlife photography and Art in the Yard for impressive new talent.
  • Museums

    - The town has a fascinating history, and it’s particularly well presented at the Huguenot Memorial exhibition.
  • Shops

    - It’s easy to while away an afternoon browsing Franschhoek’s lovely boutiques, in search for self-gifts and souvenirs!
  • Biking and hiking

    - See as much of the Franschhoek region as you wish from the saddle, or set out on foot along many of the area’s hiking trails.
  • Fishing

    - Head out to the Wemmers river, for trout fishing amidst spectacular scenery!
  • Golf

    - The Winelands boasts an outstanding variety of courses, not least in Pearl Valley, which has hosted the South African Golf Championship for the past three years in a row.
  • Visit local wine estates

    - If you have time, you could consider taking in other estates. In addition to Leeu Estate, there’s Chamonix, Grande Provence, and Rupert & Rothschild.
