South Africa Couples Safari Vacations

From the best in luxury lodges to the most sensational city-break accommodation, South Africa has something to suit all tastes and many types of vacation!

Here we showcase five of our favorite properties. If any of them appeals, or if you would like further information, just contact a member of our team!

We begin close to South Africa’s border with Mozambique, within an area of Kruger National Park known as the Lebombo Concession. This concession boasts one of the most spectacular lodges we have ever seen – Singita Lebombo! With a breathtaking location on the edge of a cliff, the property offers amazing views of the N’wanetsi River below as it meanders through the wooded bushscape.

Lebombo’s communal spaces and 13 wood-and-glass suites seem suspended in mid-aid, adding a touch of drama to this luxury property. Including an interactive kitchen, multi-media room, wine studio, and 25-meter lap pool, Lebombo provides a very high quality safari vacation! The concession is a particularly game-rich part of the Kruger and the lodge is well-positioned to offer outstanding game drives and walking safaris. Then, come nightfall, you can slink back to your sumptuous suite, perhaps to enjoy a little stargazing on your private veranda. You can even sleep under the stars, as each deck has a daybed! There are also inside and outside showers.

Another YZ favorite for couples is &Beyond’s Ngala Tented Camp, in the Timbavati Game Reserve and adjacent to Kruger NP. This property is also situated in its own concession, the Ngala Concession, and has a lovely location over the Timbavati River. However, not all of the nine tented suites overlook the river! We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment, if you have your heart set on river views.

Superb scenes of the river are available from the communal areas, which are set out on two levels and include very comfortable living spaces as well as a swimming pool and spa. All six suites are stylish and spacious, benefiting from breezy gauze windows and the presence of passing game. There is plenty of wildlife to see in the concession, and Ngala is well known for its sightings of leopard and rare wild dog! Activities focus on day and night game drives, with short nature walks around camp providing the opportunity to get to know your surroundings very well indeed.

Traveling south, we arrive at Dulini Private Game Lodge, in the western region of the Sabi Sands. Situated in the private Exeter Reserve, the property has a wonderfully shady position under ebony trees. With just six suites, it offers a high level of exclusivity – both hospitality and guiding are exceptionally good here!

Constructed from stone and thatch, the main lodge has a classic safari feel. The lounge boasts super-comfy sofas around a cozy fireplace, and in addition to a very elegant dining room there is a dining deck with excellent views! Alternatively, guests can request private dining, in a quiet spot within the grounds. The Sabi Sands is renowned for great game viewing all year round and activities here aim to bring you the best of the local wildlife. Between activities, you can retire to your gorgeous suite, a secluded stone cottage featuring comfy bed, roll-top bath, inside and outside showers, private deck, and private plunge pool!

We return to the north of the country, almost as far as South Africa’s border with Botswana, to check out Makanyane Lodge, in the Madikwe Game Reserve. This property is owned and operated by Sanctuary – and as the lodge has only eight guest suites, within a private concession, it really does have a sanctuary feel!

The communal buildings are made from stone and thatch here too, merging beautifully with the bushscape. With roofs supported by majestic leadwood trees, the property encourages guests to be at one with nature. The spa and swimming pool are ideal for a bit of pampering between activities, while guests who like to keep fit will appreciate Makanyane’s gym! As well as enjoying game drives, night drives, and walking safaris, you can spend some time in the lodge’s hides, observing animals traversing the plains or quenching their thirst at a waterhole. All eight suites have a private veranda and are very well appointed overall – the en-suite facilities include a freestanding claw-foot bath!

Our final destination is Cape Town. Known as the Mother City, Cape Town offers possibly the mother of all city breaks! Boasting the famous V&A Waterfront, a fine assortment of bars and restaurants, galleries, gardens, and even a mountain besides, Cape Town well deserves its reputation as one of the most exciting cities worldwide.

Pick of our properties here for couples is Cape Grace Hotel. Standing on the waterfront, upon its own quay, this hotel has a simply iconic location. The total count of rooms and suites, at 120, is pretty high, but service standards are high to match! The property’s Signal restaurant receives rave reviews on a regular basis. All accommodation is first rate, with the added bonus of harbor and marine views from many of the suites and rooms! Cape Grace really is a brilliant base for exploring the Mother City – and, if you wish, even farther afield.

If you are considering a couple’s trip to South Africa, we hope this small selection of properties has inspired! Just get in touch with us today, to start planning your dream vacation.
