"This small boutique hotel is located on Franschhoek high street and for years has been one of the YZ go-to properties in the Winelands. The last few years have seen a slight rise in prices, but this remains one of our favorite hotels."

OVERVIEW:

Franschhoek Hotel is listed in the portfolio of The Last Word. This portfolio contains just two other high-quality hotels – Constantia and Long Beach. The company prides itself on providing tailor-made experiences in terms of peace, space, and time. This year (2018), Franschhoek Hotel was awarded a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award! We think it’s one of the best places to stay in the Winelands. The accommodation is booked on a B&B basis, including a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, parking, and Wi-Fi. The hotel is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The hotel can be accessed via 75 kilometers’ road transfer from Cape Town. It’s situated on Huguenot Street, just a short stroll from many of Franschhoek’s outstanding restaurants and cafés.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT FRANSCHHOEK HOTEL:

Guest accommodation comes in two categories – Superior Double Room (8) and Pool Suite (2). All rooms and suites are exquisitely furnished and styled. The Superior Double Room offers 45 square meters of floor space, sufficiently spacious for a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a chaise longue at the foot of the bed/s, a separate seating area, and ample storage space. En-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins with mirror over, and bathtub with shower attachment. Additional amenities include air conditioning, under-floor heating, heated towel rails, telephone, flatscreen satellite television, DVD player, bedside alarm clocks, tea-and-coffee tray, port/sherry decanter, safe, Wi-Fi, hairdryer, shaving points, robes, and slippers. The rooms also have elegant overhead lighting, while fresh flowers on a number of surfaces add a homely feel. The Pool Suite option is larger, at 70m². It benefits from all the features of the Superior Double Room, plus a separate shower and a private courtyard complete with pool!

The communal spaces within Franschhoek Hotel are also very well appointed. They include the pleasant lounge, in which plush sofas and armchairs surround coffee tables and ottomans, all under the twinkling lights of a chandelier. The breakfast room features chic individual tables-and-chairs, laid in readiness for your first meal of the day. This can be the setting for lunches and dinners too, but most guests prefer to venture out to enjoy the amazing experience of fine dining in Franschhoek! A small bar within the hotel serves a good range of drinks, and you can request spa treatments such as massages within your own room or suite. The gorgeous gardens also promote relaxation, with their fragrant roses and bougainvilleas – and of course the solar-heated swimming pool!

ACTIVITIES AT FRANSCHHOEK HOTEL:

From this sumptuous base, you can enjoy all sorts of activities and experiences within Franschhoek and farther afield. Here are just a few examples:

  • Dining

    - As mentioned, Franschhoek is home to a number of outstanding restaurants and cafés, many just a short stroll from the hotel.
  • Art galleries

    - Featuring the work of both local and South African artists, Franschhoek has really established itself as an art destination. A couple of our favorites are Galleria Gibello for wildlife photography and Art in the Yard for impressive new talent.
  • Museums

    - The town has a fascinating history, and it’s particularly well presented at the Huguenot Memorial exhibition.
  • Shops

    - It’s easy to while away an afternoon browsing Franschhoek’s lovely boutiques, in search for self-gifts and souvenirs!
  • Biking and hiking

    - See as much of the Franschhoek region as you wish from the saddle, or set out on foot along many of the area’s hiking trails.
  • Fishing

    - Head out to the Wemmers river, for trout fishing amidst spectacular scenery!
  • Golf

    - The Winelands boasts an outstanding variety of courses, not least in Pearl Valley, which has hosted the South African Golf Championship for the past three years in a row.
  • Visit local wine estates

    - If you have time, you could consider taking trips out to estates such as Chamonix, Grande Provence, Mullineux & Leeu, and Rupert & Rothschild.
