OVERVIEW:
Located within the Vumbura Concession, on an idyllically remote private island, Wilderness Little Vumbura is a delightful little camp in an area that attracts a diverse spectacle of wildlife. Nestled within 148,000 acres of pristine wilderness, the ancient forest provides a canopy of trees, while the surrounding floodplains and deep water channels support mokoro canoe and motorboat opportunities. With a broad range of activities and some of the best game viewing in the Okavango Delta, Wilderness Little Vumbura is one of the most popular camps in the region, so we recommend booking well in advance. Rates include accommodation, all meals, all local drinks, twice-daily scheduled camp activities, park fees, and a laundry service. The camp is open all year round.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Wilderness Little Vumbura is situated on its own private island within the Vumbura Concession, which borders Moremi Wildlife Reserve. Vumbura Airstrip is approximately 45 minutes from Maun by light aircraft, followed by a 45-minute game drive transfer and a boat ride. Please note that Wilderness Little Vumbura is surrounded by water and can only be accessed by boat.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT WILDERNESS LITTLE VUMBURA:
Wilderness Little Vumbura comprises six spacious and airy guest tents, including a two-bedroom family unit positioned along raised wooden walkways and shaded by ancient trees. Wooden viewing decks offer panoramic views of the floodplains, and the large windows are designed to optimise the flow of light. Tents can be configured as doubles or twins, with supersized mosquito nets and fans to provide maximum comfort. The open-plan space includes a seating area, writing desk, standing fan, tea-and-coffee station, and double vanity unit. The en-suite washrooms include showers, twin washbasins, and separate toilets. A designated honeymoon tent is farthest away from the communal areas and has a bath outside on the viewing deck. The family tent has two interleading ensuite tents and is ideal for groups of friends or those travelling with children. The camp can also be booked for exclusive use.
The communal areas at Wilderness Little Vumbura offer equally impressive views. The camp features a roomy open-sided lounge with an adjoining deck, a library constructed around an empty termite mound with a great range of wildlife books and magazines, and a dining area where guests can choose between communal dining at a long wooden table or private tables. There’s also a buffet counter, a tea-and-coffee station, and a self-service bar. The cuisine focuses on seasonal ingredients with an appreciation for local produce such as ditloo (local black-eyed peas) and marula fruit. A star deck is approached from the dining area via a bridge – here, guests can enjoy drinks, beside an inviting campfire overlooking the water. The camp also has a plunge pool with sunloungers and parasols for cooling off during the heat of the day.
