Kim's biography

Born into a safari family, Kim grew up exploring the Okavango Delta and its surrounding areas on endless camping and fishing trips. She has been incredibly lucky to have gained invaluable knowledge of the Delta from her dad, who has been involved in the Botswana tourism industry for over 45 years.

Kim has worked at Machaba Camp, which is in the Khwai Reserve, and Dinaka, in the Central Kalahari, so she has been able to experience two very different areas that are in Botswana.

Whilst attending boarding school in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Kim gained wonderful insight into the beauty of the Drakensberg Mountains, the Anglo-Zulu War’s battlefields, and the Natal coastline.

After her schooling, Kim pursued her passion for tourism by studying Hotel Management in Cape Town. She also gained work experience in many of the Mother City’s well-known hotels, such as Cape Grace. Kim’s time in Cape Town was a highlight in her life, as she experienced first hand what an incredibly beautiful and diverse city it is, with endless activities to enjoy.

Whilst completing her studies, Kim set off to work at Offbeat Mara Camp in the Maasai Mara, Kenya. This fulfilled a dream she’d always had – to live and experience the Great Migration as well as the Maasai culture.

Kim is now settled in the UK, and she has joined the Yellow Zebra team to continue her passion in African tourism.

Most memorable experience

“It’s impossible to have a most memorable experience, but I do have two that stand out for me:

“Whilst working at a lodge in Botswana, I was involved with a team that was relocating five white rhino into that area. It’s something very difficult to describe in words, to be up close and personal with an animal of that size, with such unique beauty, and so endangered in this world. An experience I will never forget.

“It must have been around 6:15am. I was sitting alone on the edge of decking with a cup of tea and huddled in a blanket, as it was a typical winter morning in the Kalahari. I was barely awake, taking in the morning sounds as I watched the sun rise, when I noticed a shadow appear. The next thing, I had six lionesses drinking at a water trough roughly 20 metres in front of me. An exhilarating yet beautiful experience!”
