"The Hide is an institution in Hwange. Having opened 30 years ago, it is still owner-run, and the benefit of decades of experience is evident."

OVERVIEW:

The Hide continues to be privately owned and run by the Prestons – with great success! Staff members are friendly and knowledgeable. The lodge offers excellent African cuisine featuring filling farmhouse breakfasts, lunches and dinners around a vast teak table, and a lot of al-fresco options such as sundowners while on night safari.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

It is situated on the south-east border of Hwange National Park, inside a game-rich concession totalling 5 sq. km and two hours by road from Victoria Falls.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THE HIDE SAFARI CAMP:

All areas of the camp boast a fabulous location, ringed by acacia trees and overlooking a wonderful waterhole that attracts animals such as elephant and giraffe. The communal facilities are housed within an A-frame thatched-roof structure. Downstairs there is a sun lounge and dining room, while the upper floor contains a larger lounge and viewing area. Just outside, there is a small plunge pool, and a library.

Guest accommodation at The Hide consists of ten tented suites, along either side of the main lodge. There are three categories – Classic Twin, Deluxe Double, Deluxe Honeymoon, all with a similar A-frame design. One of the tents is wheelchair accessible. The interiors are spacious, featuring classic furnishings plus a few contemporary influences. All tents include a ceiling fan, tea/coffee station, lovely veranda to enjoy amazing views, and en-suite bathrooms with flush toilet, generous basin, indoor bath and outdoor shower. The honeymoon suites have an outdoor bathtub too!

*Please be aware that we are unable to book this property for families with young children under the age of 6 years, for safety reasons relating to the balconies/decks/walkways.*

ACTIVITIES AT THE HIDE SAFARI CAMP:

The Hide’s activities are designed to make the most of its setting within Hwange National Park.

  • Game drives are available during the morning, afternoon and night!
  • Walking safaris take place in the morning, enabling guests to get up and close to nature. The guiding here is truly exceptional and the many hideaways dotted around the concession often make for some very dramatic encounters!
  • We especially recommend spending time in Dove’s Nest. This is essentially a tree house, from which visitors may sight animals passing under the tree and birdlife hopping among its branches.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

My 2 sons and I stayed a The Hide for 4 days and what an amazing experience. The folks at the camp, every single person, went out of their way to ensure we had the time of our life. The food, the accommodations, the bush walks, the jeep safaris and the actual "Hide" itself exceeded all our expectations. Thank you for such an incredible experience!

The hide was excellent in all aspects. Great people, and the food was exceptional. The animal sightings were also excellent. We would definitely return.
