The Seychelles is fantastic for family holidays! If you are thinking of treating yourselves to the ultimate trip to the seaside, this is it.

The Seychelles archipelago has all the right ingredients for a spectacular family beach holiday, as a stand-alone destination or paired with an African wildlife safari. World-class island resorts offer a superb range of accommodations and activities that appeal to all ages. Scenically, the Seychelles ticks all the boxes with its verdant forests, palm-fringed beaches, and gorgeous coral reefs.

Why choose the Seychelles for your Family Safari Holiday?

Beach

The Seychelles boast some of the most magnificent beaches in the world, complete with powder-soft white sand, translucent turquoise waters, and towering coconut palms swaying gently in the breeze. Few such pristine tropical island destinations exist, and travellers are instantly enchanted by its exquisite natural beauty. Outside the trade wind months, the ocean is calm and ideal for swimming and snorkelling, with opportunities for sailing and kitesurfing when the south-easterly winds prevail.

Choice of Accommodations

The Seychelles archipelago offers a variety of accommodations geared towards families. From small, bungalow-style cottages to fully fledged family beach resorts, lavish private residences and picture-perfect island retreats, travellers can expect a well-balanced assortment of styles and price points. Indeed, it’s safe to say that few places compare to Seychelles in the luxury hotel stakes, particularly for families seeking high-level suites and villas, watersports, kids clubs, and a wide choice of dining options.

Wildlife

Known for lush island landscapes and paradisiacal beaches, the Seychelles also safeguard an incredible diversity of wildlife, with huge efforts poured into conserving the natural environment. Guests are amazed by its verdant equatorial forests with their endemic plant species, vibrant corals full of colourful fish, rare turtles, giant tortoises, and a stunning assortment of bird life. The Seychelles is also home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve on the island of Praslin and the largely unvisited Aldabra Atoll, inhabited by the world’s largest population of giant Aldabra tortoises.

Activities

The Seychelles is fantastic for families seeking action-packed beach holidays with plenty to keep the kids entertained. Family resorts usually come with extensive activity menus featuring snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking, beach volleyball, stand-up paddle, boat trips, and nature walks. Some properties are really creative with their offerings, extending a full spectrum of fun entertainment, such as Creole cooking classes, coconut painting, seasonal turtle-hatching excursions, and cinema under the stars.

Seasonality

The best months of the year for a Seychelles family safari are between April and November, coinciding with summer school holidays in Europe and the United States. This makes it the perfect family beach adventure either as a stand-alone destination or combined with an African safari.

Where to go on your family safari to the Seychelles

What is the best time to visit Seychelles?

April and May are both beautiful months for the Seychelles, usually signalling the beginning of a relatively dry period that lasts until November. April and November are often wind-free, making them feel extremely hot, but excellent for snorkelling and diving as the ocean is calm with high visibility. May through October is an ideal time of year to visit as the southeast trade winds bring a welcome breeze and opportunities for sailing and windsurfing. December and January are the wettest months of the year, though temperatures remain high.

Recommended Family Activities in the Seychelles

Snorkelling

With its warm waters, stunning coral reefs, and an incredible variety of brightly coloured fish, rays, and turtles, the Seychelles is a snorkeller’s paradise. While the snorkelling around the shores of Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue is good, the coralline reefs of the outer islands including North Island, Alphonse, and Denis Island are where you need to head for a truly exceptional snorkelling experience. April and November are usually particularly calm, low-wind months with excellent underwater visibility.

Cooking Classes

Cooking is a really fun activity for kids and adults alike, and Creole cuisine, in particular, is a sensory delight packed full of colour and exotic flavours. Learn about the different ingredients and spice fusions used in Creole food, and discover how to make some of the Seychelles’ most mouthwatering dishes!

Reef Restoration Project

It’s never too early to start learning about conservation, and the Seychelles is a great place to start! Led by a team of marine educators, discover the precious world beneath the waves on a snorkelling trip and gain insight into the vital ongoing work to restore Petite Anse’s coral reef.

Boating

A scenic boat excursion is a wonderful way to explore the islands of the Seychelles, sailing the crystal-clear waters around Mahé, Praslin, Félicité, or La Digue, perhaps with a spot of fishing or snorkelling en route. You can also choose to set off on a sunset cruise accompanied by a glass of chilled champagne and take in the glorious colours of nature as the day draws to a close.

Beach Clubs

Family-friendly resorts often have beach clubs with a full stock of snorkel masks, table tennis, volleyball, and football equipment to keep active kids busy and energised, alongside thoughtfully devised weekly schedules of children’s activities.

Kids’ Programmes

Some properties have given a great deal of thought to their children’s programmes, offering an incredible variety of entertainment, including ice cream tasting, coconut bowling, treasure hunts, sandcastle making, storytelling, and mini mixologist classes.

Arts & Crafts

The Seychelles provides endless creative opportunities for budding artists and crafts enthusiasts. Some resorts have dreamed up programmes full of unique activities, especially for kids, such as coconut painting, shell collecting, and dance classes, so young explorers will be delighted to find all their interests catered for!

Hiking and Cycling

Choices of activities are endless on the stunning Seychelles islands with their mix of culture, history, and raw natural beauty. Hike on some of Mahé’s gorgeous mountainous trails, explore the jungles of Félicité on foot, or bicycle around La Digue Island (only 10 minutes by boat from Félicité).
