OVERVIEW:

Sambora Kinigi is a charming boutique lodge just outside Rwanda’s rainforested Volcanoes National Park, making it an ideal base for gorilla trekking. The guest experience here is warm and welcoming, with staff delivering a high level of service while maintaining an intimate and friendly atmosphere. The jungly gardens and views of the Virunga volcanoes further enhance the feeling of being in a peaceful, nature-filled retreat, and the lodge is an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding wildlife and landscapes. Rates at Sambora Kinigi are full board and include all meals and selected drinks, in-room mini-bar, snacks, and a 30-minute massage treatment.

ACCESS & LOCATION: 

Sambora Kinigi is located on the outskirts of northern Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. International guests land at Kigali International Airport, followed by a 2.5-hour drive to the lodge. It’s also possible to arrive by light aircraft.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SAMBORA KINIGI: 

Sambora Kinigi features six comfortable suites in rustic thatched cottages nestled within the lodge’s lush tropical gardens. The thoughtful design is simple and tasteful, utilising a variety of natural materials and locally sourced crafts. Each room can be configured as a twin or king-sized unit, accommodating up to two adults and a child. Fireplaces are a welcome addition to keep guests warm during the cold early mornings and evenings, and thoughtful touches such as hot water bottles further enhance the experience. Every suite also features a cosy indoor seating area, a writing desk, bedside tables with hanging lamps, a mini-bar, storage space, and tea-and-coffee-making facilities. Each also has an en-suite bathroom with twin basins, a flush toilet, and a rain shower. 

The main areas at Sambora Kinigi include a communal lounge, the main dining room, and a well-stocked bar. Guests can also choose to dine al fresco in the jungle-like gardens, with views of the Virunga Volcanoes, and there’s a welcoming eucalyptus-stoked fire-pit ideal for warming up with a glass of wine before dinner. The lodge places great emphasis on the dining experience, serving guests the freshest locally sourced ingredients and a carefully selected wine list. The range of restorative spa treatments is perfect after a day spent gorilla trekking, and each stay includes a relaxing 30-minute complimentary massage.
