Botswana in June

June is the beginning of dry season – temperatures are in decline and gradually Botswana’s wildlife is starting to cluster around increasingly scarce water sources.

  • Day time maximum temperature = 25°C
  • Night time minimum temperature = 6°C
  • Average rainfall = 1mm
  • Average daylight = 10.5 hours

What's the weather going to be like in Botswana in June?

  • On the whole, it’ll be warm and sunny with cool mornings and evenings
  • We’re just entering the dry season, winter in effect
  • Temperatures drop throughout the month
  • As it’s getting chilly, we recommend packing lots of layers
  • Overall, it’s a changeable time, with humidity levels varying throughout the country and during the month as well

What are the highlights of visiting Botswana in June?

  • June is neither very hot nor very rainy, so it’s a great time to be at a mobile camp
  • As the parks start to dry out, the quality of game viewing increases – and, with the exception of Chobe National Park’s riverfront, the parks aren’t too busy yet
  • Mosquito numbers are in decline
  • In the Savuti and Chobe regions, huge herds of elephant may be seen
  • Animals begin to cluster around water sources, increasing your opportunities to spot a range of species – and guided walks within private concessions are excellent, particularly in the Linyanti area
  • Wildlife around waterholes makes for some fantastic photos

Any lowlights?

  • There’s low availability of camps and lodges in Botswana’s north
  • We’re just coming into peak season, so prices are beginning to climb
  • Both mornings and evenings can feel pretty chilly this month
  • The humidity can still be high
  • Earlier in June, game can be widely scattered due to reasonable numbers of watering holes
