"One of Africa’s most famous camps and the location of the very best game viewing in Botswana. Unbelievably good for game all year, Wilderness Mombo is a property that is often booked out over a year in advance. Best combined with a camp that offers the water activities the Delta is most famous for. Absolutely first class but seriously pricey."

OVERVIEW:

There are few properties as prestigious as Wilderness Mombo. It’s the crowning jewel of the Okavango Delta and consistently regarded as one of the finest camps in Africa, with accommodations and communal spaces that are supremely luxurious. Yet it’s the guest experience and mind-blowing wildlife sightings that truly set it apart, with a dedicated team of staff, excellent guiding, and astonishing densities of game. As the focus is primarily on game drives, we suggest combining Wilderness Mombo with camps of a similar standard, such as Wilderness Jao or Wilderness Vumbura Plains for water-based activities. Rates are full board and include accommodation, all meals, twice-daily scheduled camp activities, park fees, laundry, and all local drinks.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Wilderness Mombo is located on Chief’s Island within the Moremi Game Reserve, considered the beating heart of the Delta due to its astonishingly high concentrations of wildlife. Access is by light aircraft from Maun, and it’s approximately 15 minutes by car from the airstrip to camp. The journey into Moremi is wonderfully scenic, offering ample opportunities for wildlife viewing.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT WILDERNESS MOMBO:

The accommodation at Wilderness Mombo comprises seven spacious canvas suites for double or twin occupancy and a two-bedroom family unit that accommodates four guests. Amongst the most luxurious and sought after in Botswana, the privately spaced tents are elevated on wooden walkways woven amongst mangosteen and ebony trees. Elegantly designed, with every possible comfort considered, their features include wooden louvre shutters, sliding mosquito net doors that open onto a shaded wrap-around veranda with a private plunge pool and panoramic floodplain views, ceiling fans, and a spot cooling system over the bed, perfect for the warmer months. The separate lounges are comfortably furnished with leather sofas, armchairs, and statement floor lamps. En-suite bathrooms have a double indoor shower, a stand-alone copper bathtub, an outdoor shower, a double basin vanity, and a separate toilet. Additional amenities include a well-stocked minibar, an electric safe, tea- and coffee-making facilities, an exercise mat, and weights. Wi-Fi is available in all the suites.

The generously sized family suite has two separate bedrooms – a master bedroom with a double bed and an additional twin-bedded room – separated by a shared indoor lounge area. The main bathroom has a double indoor shower, an outdoor shower, an oversized bathtub, a double basin vanity, and a separate toilet. The second bathroom comes with a single indoor shower (no outdoor shower), a single basin vanity, and a separate toilet. Each bedroom has its own separate entrance, and the expansive outdoor deck, which is shared, features a comfortable sunken seating area and a private plunge pool and sala.

The communal area at Wilderness Mombo features large open-sided living and dining spaces with mesmerising views of the floodplain, as well as a library, an inviting and well-stocked bar, a pizza oven, and a sweeping deck where guests are invited to dine in the open air and take in the magnificent views. A wooden walkway leads to the infinity lap pool, small spa and gym-with-a-view. Memorable evenings are held at the boma, with music, dancing, and samples of Botswana’s traditional cuisine – a wonderful experience and a great way to interact with some of the other guests.

ACTIVITIES AT WILDERNESS MOMBO:

Wildlife concentrations at Wilderness Mombo are truly sensational, with some of the most exciting game viewing on the continent. As the camp is located within a designated game reserve, activities are limited to daylight hours.

  • Game drives

    – Due to its location in one of the most wildlife-rich regions in Africa, Wilderness Mombo delivers exceptionally good morning and afternoon game drives with some incredible predator encounters. All the big cats are in residence – lion, leopard, and cheetah –, as are hyena, jackal, and wild dog. Please note that night drives are not possible at Wilderness Mombo because the camp is located within Moremi Game Reserve.
  • Bush brunch

    – Enjoy a freshly prepared brunch outside in the bush after an action-packed game drive, and maximise your time spent in Moremi Game Reserve’s stunning natural environment.
  • Birding

    – Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled with the opportunities to spot endless varieties, including martial eagle, wattled crane, lesser jacana, and the intriguing Pel’s fishing owl. Guests also have access to a hide just 20 minutes from camp, a must-visit for keen photographers!
  • Helicopter rides

    – A range of scenic helicopter flights showcases scenic and cultural highlights, including Tsodilo Hills (UNESCO World Heritage Site), where you’ll learn about San history and see some of their remarkable ancient rock art.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
