Namibia in June

June

June is the first month of Namibia’s dry season – it’s one of the best times of year to be on safari, as there are immense concentrations of wildlife around scarce water sources.

What’s the weather going to be like in Namibia in June

  • Days are warm and nights are cool
  • This is the beginning of the dry season, with clear blue skies
  • Night temperatures can drop significantly in desert regions, sometimes below freezing
  • Snug nightwear is essential, and we also recommend warm layers for early morning game drives

What are the highlights of visiting Namibia in June

  • As it’s the first month of dry season, parks and reserves are less crowded
  • There are very few mosquitoes
  • It’s a great time of year to be on safari
  • Wildlife clusters around scarce water sources, making for exceptionally good sightings
  • As the plant life dies back, wildlife becomes increasingly visible
  • Stargazing is superb during Namibia’s dry season – the south of the country even boasts a dark sky reserve, one of just two worldwide
  • There are lots of opportunities for wildlife photography – and if you’re looking for a particularly dramatic subject, you could consider the stark sands of Sossusvlei

Any lowlights?

  • Towards the end of June, properties start to book up quickly as school holidays begin
  • Dry season is the most expensive time to visit Namibia
  • Depending on your location, nights can be very cold
