A walking safari is the best way to encounter and be part of the bush. Whether it is coming up close to lion on foot, or simply feeling part of the wilderness, walking through big-game areas is an exhilarating experience.

There is no better walking destination than Zambia’s Luangwa Valley. Both South Luangwa and North Luangwa are exceptional walking destinations with a camp style quite unlike anywhere else we operate safaris.

We use a number of different companies in the valley, believing that each one has its own individual merit. Some of our travellers prefer to be in a camp that offers walking among standard game-driving activities, whereas others simply want to walk.

Our favourite company, one that epitomises the very essence of walking safaris and of the South Luangwa area itself, is John Coppinger’s exceptional Remote Africa. We are big fans of his main camp, Tafika, as well as his walking camps Chikoko and Mwaleshi (in North Luangwa).

For travellers wanting more creature comforts than John’s camps, and the option of game drives as well as walks, our favourite company is Norman Carr, with Luwi and Mchenja as our top properties.
