Emily spent time in both Namibia and South Africa to complete research projects for her undergraduate and Masters degrees. After this, she moved into the travel industry, planning safari itineraries across Eastern and Southern Africa.

Recent travel experience

Emily’s most recent safari was to Kenya on a big family trip, starting in Samburu then through the Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara. Following the safari, they flew over to Zanzibar to relax by the ocean, staying at the beautiful Zuri Zanzibar.

Emily's most memorable experience

“Such a tricky question! I think I’m going to have to pick a few. 

When I was last in Samburu, our guide Jonah had a radio call that a leopard had been spotted in a tree nearby. We managed to find said tree and with binoculars you could make out the tip of a leopard’s tail high up in the foliage. We waited for around 40 minutes hoping for a better sighting, and it was definitely worth the wait! The female leopard made her way down the tree, followed shortly after by two cubs, who then went onto play around the base of the tree. Truly magical and a wonderful surprise.

We were in Mara North in September for the migration. One morning game drive, on the way back to our camp, we spotted two cheetah brothers watching a herd of wildebeest. They skirted the edges of the herd and made a couple of moves to chase them down, but nothing came of it. As it was late morning, we headed back to camp for lunch and to relax. At the start of our afternoon game drive, we returned to the same herd, with the cheetah still sitting nearby. This time the two managed to successfully take down a young wildebeest. Watching this happen at top speed after all the anticipation was a heart-in-mouth moment that I will never forget.

Whilst doing research in South Africa, I assisted a private reserve with dehorning a few of their white rhino. Over the day, we followed the small helicopter in 4x4s, racing along to get to the darted rhino. Being so hands-on with animals of that size was incredible and rhino are definitely still my favourite sighting on safari.”

Emily's biography

Emily grew up in an adventurous Yorkshire family, traveling at every possible chance, from Alaska to South Africa and across Europe. 

Having always been fascinated by the natural world, Emily pursued this interest throughout her academic career, starting with a BSc (Hons) Animal Biology and Conservation then on to an MSc in Wild Animal Biology at the Royal Veterinary College London & Zoological Society London. She spent time in the Amazon at a conservation research base, in Southern Namibia collecting data on herbivores, and then in South Africa studying the behavioral impact of dehorning on white rhino.

After university, pursuing her love for travel, Emily started working for a safari tour operator. This role led to travel across Kenya and South Africa. Her favorite trip to South Africa started in Cape Town, taking time to explore the city, hike, and swim before moving onto the Winelands and along the Garden Route to Hermanus, Oudtshoorn, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Tsitsikamma National Park, and finally the Eastern Cape.
