Asilia Africa

Asilia Africa is one of several safari companies whose camps we often include in our clients' itineraries.

“Yellow Zebra Safaris is a highly experienced safari operator. We have worked with the team since Asilia was founded in 2004 and regard them as one of the true Africa specialists.”

Background information

Asilia Africa is a relatively new travel company with seven camps in Tanzania and three beach lodges in Zanzibar. They have recently opened Kubatana Camp in Gorangosa National Park, Mozambique. They are interested in eco-tourism and conservation of wilderness areas.

Yellow Zebra view

Asilia is well-known for its good value luxury accommodation in Tanzania (however, please note that its luxury is not in the same league as companies like &Beyond, Wilderness and Singita) . The focus is more on value. Its flagship camp is Sayari, but Olivers is also very popular. It is early days to comment on Kubatana, but it looks very adventurous.

Asilia's camps:

Sayari Camp

As the first permanent lodge in the northern Kogatende area of Tanzania's Serengenti National Park, Sayari has one of the finest locations. The 15 tented rooms and main communal area overlook the Serengeti plains towards Kenya’s Maasai Mara. The rooms are spacious, raised onto wooden decks, and come complete with four-poster beds and beautiful suites.

Dunia Camp

Located in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, Dunia Camp is a classic tented safari camp situated in the central Seronera River Valley in the heart of the park. Dunia has earned a reputation for offering good-value, high-quality accommodation, with a sense of adventure, great guiding and overall good levels of service.

Namiri Plains

Namiri Plains is a luxurious tented camp situated on the open plains of the Serengeti. It is in a prime location for cheetah enthusiasts – the campsite used to be the base for a cheetah research team.

Olakira Camp

Olakira Camp is located in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. It is a well-priced mobile camp that moves twice per year to keep up with the Serengeti’s Great Migration. Sister camp to the more luxurious Sayari Camp, Olakira is a more outdoorsy mobile camp that focuses on the safari experience over the luxury on offer at Sayari.

Kimondo Camp

Kimondo Camp is located in the Serengeti National Park. Sister camp to Olakira and Ubuntu, Kimondo is a traditional safari camp and perfect for those keen to enjoy an authentic experience in arguably Tanzania’s best park. With only eight tents, Kimondo Camp is very small and personal.

Ubuntu Camp

Asilia’s Ubuntu Camp is located in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and is particularly good for travellers who wish to see the Great Migration in comfort, yet have a limited budget.

Oliver’s Camp

Located down in the south of Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park, Oliver’s is one of the remotest camps in the park. Originally owned by Paul Oliver, one of Tanzania’s most famous guides, Oliver’s Camp has changed hands but still retains that adventurous feel that made the camp so famous. This is a very good little camp.

Little Oliver’s Camp

Little Oliver’s is situated in the remote south-eastern reaches of Tarangire National Park. The camp’s lounge area is shaded by thatch and is open sided, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding landscape. With a welcoming and stylish feel, the lounge provides a comfortable place to sit and relax!

Ngorongoro Highlands Camp

Ngorongoro Highlands Camp is one of the newest additions to the properties on the Ngorongoro Crater, having opened in June 2016. In fact, this is the highest property in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. To add to the wow factor, there is the unusual architectural theme of Highlands – domes. A large dome houses the communal areas, while smaller domes provide guest accommodation - all constructed from canvas and glass.

Kwihala Camp

This tented camp has earned its reputation as one of the best-value camps in the country. Kwihala is a small, six-roomed luxury tented camp situated in the Mwagusi area of northern Ruaha. The main camp manager, Piedro, has guided in Ruaha for years and consequently you have a seriously good guiding team on offer for a very affordable price.

Matemwe Lodge

Matemwe is a hotel that epitomises Zanzibar – we love it! The lodge is situated on a coral cliff, overlooking a beautiful powder beach that runs down to the village of Matemwe. It is a dramatic, exposed location where the waves crash in against the coral wall at high tide.

Matemwe Retreat

Matemwe Retreat is intimate, luxurious, stylish and romantic – a perfect place for couples. Matemwe Retreat consists of four private villas. These are extremely stylish and wonderfully luxurious.

Rekero Camp

Rekero is a seasonal camp situated in the middle of the Maasai Mara National Reserve and approximately 3km from the point where the Talek River joins the Mara River, famous for the Great Migration. Rekero has a fine reputation as a small authentic camp in one of the Mara’s best game-viewing areas.

Naboisho Camp

Naboisho Camp is situated within the Conservancy of the same name, to the north-east of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The guest accommodation at Naboisho comprises nine tented suites, which are airy and spacious, designed to combine traditional safari style and modern attention to detail.

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is situated along the Ewaso Nyiro River as it flows through southern Laikipia, within the northern region of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. The camp is owned and run by keen conservationists Alex and Diana Hunter. In addition to enjoying safari activities, guests can take an interest in local conservation efforts, not least through the ‘Paws, Claws, Birds & Turds’ programme!
