"An expensive property, but one that gives a guarantee of good guiding and high levels of service. One of Kogatende's best camps."

OVERVIEW:

Owned and operated by Asilia Africa, Sayari Camp is one of our favourite safari properties in the Kogatende region of the Serengeti National Park! The company aims to provide the finest wilderness experiences in Africa, and Sayari certainly succeeds in this mission. In common with sister property Olakira Camp, it is well placed to witness the wildebeest Great Migration. The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, scheduled open vehicle game drives, short walking safaris, transfers between camp and Kogatende Airstrip, and a laundry service.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Sayari camp is accessed via road transfer from Kogatende Airstrip, a journey of 15–20 minutes. Sayari was the first permanent property constructed in the area, and it has one of the best locations! The surrounding scenery features sprawling savanna and rocky hills.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SAYARI CAMP:

There are 15 tented suites, including one suite for honeymooners. These are set up at varying distances from the communal structures – the longest stroll to suite is 10 minutes, but vehicle transfer is available. All suites are raised on wooden decking, and sliding timber-framed glass doors lead into the bedroom area. This features a king-size bed or twin beds with mosquito nets and fan over, bedside tables and lighting, end-of-bed seating, a writing desk and pouffe, and ample storage space. Behind the bedroom area is the well-appointed en-suite washing room, which benefits from flush toilet, twin washbasins, shower, and big bathtub. Toiletries are provided, as is washing powder for underwear. Back in the bedroom, the glass doors lead out onto a lovely veranda, where you can relax and enjoy your amazing views! The honeymoon tent differs slightly from the others, in that it has a four-poster bed, a pleasantly secluded outdoor bathtub, and a particularly spacious veranda with uninterrupted vistas across the plains. Up to two beds can be added to a standard tent, to accommodate a family or group. Alternatively, a larger unit can be created from two tents, with enough room for up to eight travellers. For big groups and families, Sayari has built two new retreats each including a dedicated chef, a host and a private safari guide and vehicle.

Sayari’s communal structures consist of two lounges and two dining spaces, effectively providing two main areas. Both are raised on decking and feature sliding doors into the interiors. The lounges contain plenty of comfortable seating around coffee tables, snug rugs, and some wildlife artwork. In the dining spaces, smart upright chairs are set up around chic separate tables, close to a well-stocked bar! The camp provides full English or continental breakfasts, light buffet lunches, and a lavish three-course dinner. Guests can opt to eat and drink in a number of outdoor locations too, and kitchen staff members will happily cater for any special diets. The curio shop stocks a good range of souvenirs. Finally, the camp’s rim-flow swimming pool, built into rocks and linking the two communal areas, is the perfect place to wind down between activities – you can settle into a sunlounger and marvel at the scenery for hours!

ACTIVITIES AT SAYARI CAMP:

Sayari Camp has a number of activities on offer. They include:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    – Drives take place in early morning and late afternoon into evening. They are expertly guided, and a wonderful opportunity to see a real wealth of wildlife!
  • Great Wildebeest Migration

    – As Sayari is close to the River Mara, you can enjoy watching the world-famous Great Migration river crossings while the huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles are in residence, typically from July to November. Look out for scary crocs too!
  • Wildlife spotting

    – Outside the migration months, there’s still a lot to see, such as all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – in addition to numerous smaller predators and herbivores.
  • Bird watching

    – There are hundreds of bird species too, not least a thrilling assortment of raptors and oodles of songbirds!
  • Walking safaris

    – Sayari’s bush walks are fantastic for anyone seeking a closer look at all the wildlife, in the company of a knowledgeable guide.
  • Community visits

    – If you have an interest in culture, you will relish visiting a nearby village, Merenga, to find out about the Kuria tribe. You can even pop in to a local garden to pick a few ingredients for dinner!
  • Hot air balloon rides

    – And if you are looking for a really special experience, we recommend paying a little extra to go on a hot air balloon ride. The balloon launches at dawn, drifting over the Serengeti plains for about an hour before descending to a bush breakfast – a real treat.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

The resort recommended by Yellow Zebra Safaris was absolutely world-class in every sense. From the moment we arrived, every single detail exceeded our expectations. The hospitality was warm, the service was incredibly attentive, and the setting was nothing short of breathtaking. The food alone deserves special mention. Every meal was thoughtfully prepared and consistently exceptional so much so that it became something we all looked forward to each day. What stood out most was how universally loved the food and service were across our group of 11, which included children, teens, and adults. That level of satisfaction across such a wide age range is rare and speaks volumes about the quality and care the lodge provided. Each moment at the property felt luxurious yet comfortable. We felt truly cared for, looked after, and valued as guests. The lodge made us feel at home while offering an experience that was far beyond anything we could have imagined. We also went on two safaris each day and saw all of the Big Five up close. One evening, we had drinks along the Mara River, and one morning we enjoyed breakfast by the river itself moments that were both surreal and magical. This wasn’t just a place to stay. It was an experience that became the heart of our trip, and it left a lasting impression on all of us.

Luxury in the bush. For our 3 day stay we were the only guests! The camp staff could not have been more attentive and helpful. They might have been tempted to slacken off as there was only us but they didn't, keeping up to the usual high standards we had come to expect of Asilia Africa. On our last day we had a surprise full breakfast out in the bush by the Kenyan Border as well as a surprise sundowner on rocks just before we got back to camp. Faith, the front of house manager, was superb as was Angel our guide who did her utmost to find interesting things and make us work hard testing us all the time as she realised that we are experienced safari goers!
